The Sugar Bowl ~ May #137

Woohoo, it's time for the next Sugar Nellie Challenge and you can't even imagine how excited I've been about this. Right up to the moment I got a nasty tummy bug! So that put me out of action for a couple of days, but I recovered enough on Wednesday to finish up my DT make with these gorgeous images from Scrapberry's range at Funky Kits. I've used Blue Bunny & Pink Bunny for this creation. They are such sweeties for bubs and that's perfectly timed for me, as one of my best pals has a bubby turning 1 in June. I can't wait to share this sweet surprise with her!

It's my hubby's birthday today, so I'm chasing my tail after a couple of days of feeling really poorly. So it's just the one pic for now. I'll add more tomorrow. So pop back if you'd like to see these gorgeous images up close. In the meantime, check out the gorgeous creations my teamies made. The Sweeties have been hard at work whipping up some pretty spectacular creations (which isn't difficult when you've got such gorgeous subject matter! Sugar Nellie's rock!!)

Go check out the new challenge at Sugar Nellie and come join us with your own Sugar Nellie creation. Anything Goes - Using a Sugar Nellie Image. Click the DT link above to head over there. We have lots of Gorjuss Girls in store, so if you're a Gorjuss Girl fan, you can enter with any of the range sold at Funky Kits. Check out the store here, to know what you could enter with. You'll be hooked once you start looking! Make sure you check out the soon to be discontinued line which is going out of license. These are some of my all time favourite Sugar Nellies a lot by artist Marina Fedotova. There are three pages of them. So don't miss out! They're on sale too, so you don't want to miss this! Seriously, you'll be thanking me!

Okay, that's me for today. I'll pop back soon with a photo update and some further details of the ingredients used to create my sweet 'exploding box' (reveal to come!).

Hugs to you all until then, Wends x

So perfect with it's lovely brocade design on the outside and sweet wee hearts inside for this '1st Birthday' creation. I also used an older Marianne Design doily die which rarely gets an outing these days and the pearl loops on the top are from a pearl strand I purchased so long ago it's embarrassing. This is the first outing that's had! :) :)

Sweet Stampin' ~ Terrible Teens

Uh oh, woops! Running late, sorry!! It's been a big day today, taking my lil' dude to Little Scientists this morning, then a 3 year old birthday party, I was plumb tuckered out afterward and only just remembered I hadn't scheduled this post!! It's time of course for a new post at Sweet Stampin' and man do we have a fun theme for you this week! We want to see all your makes for those 'Terrible Teens' in your life. They can be so hard to create for can't they?

I have a teen in training in my house right now. My daughter Georgie is really flexing those teen angst muscles. She's so funny with it though and we can always make her laugh, not matter how horridly hormonal she's being! So my card for this challenge is actually her card for her recent birthday. She only turned 11, but I think it still fits our theme really well, so I hope you agree.

I've used a fantastic image from Yam Puff, as my wee girlie is wolf crazy! She's all about the wolf for over a year now. So of course her birthday card had to have a wolf on it. I kept the layout pretty simple, a few layered papers and simple twine bow. I can't even begin to tell you how afraid I was of colouring that wolf and how delighted I am with how it came out! Needless to say, this card was a HUGE hit with my wee pre-teen birthday girlie. I used purple as the base colour for this creation because it's her fav', which was not lost on my wee doll. So I was chuffed with that. I used my Promarkers to colour the image.

I've used a lovely digital paper set from The Digital Press by designer Wild Heart Designs called Free Spirit that had a lovely Native American theme to its styling and also fit with the purple theme I wanted to use. I loved the sentiment that came with this set in the journal cards section. It just fit with this make so perfectly. Georgie is my 'Wild Child' in the nicest possible way. I love her raw, joyful, love of life. She lives life on her own terms, finding her own path and absolutely makes no apologies for this. She is my strong willed, gorgeous, free spirited child and I wouldn't have it any other way. So this card was my 'hat tip' to the strength and beauty I see in my blossoming babe.

Here are a couple of pics of her dressed as an 'emerging werewolf' for a recent dress up day at school. She utterly 'owned' this outfit and it was worth all the neckache and stiffness from all the stitching the night before to see how joyful and proud she was to wear this. She didn't take it off until well into the evening! I was pretty proud of that tail! You won't see so well in these pics but even the tips of her nails were painted red to hint at some feral behaviour!

So come join us at Sweet Stampin' this week with your own 'Terrible Teens' creations. We'd love to see your take on the theme. While you're there check out the fabulous inspiration from the rest of my teamies. We are hugely thrilled to be sponsored by the wonderful Lawn Fawn for this challenge. So we have one very gorgeous prize up for grabs for our lucky winner! Check out all things gorgeous at Lawn Fawn to see what you'd be in to win.

We have had a changing of the guards recently at Sweet Stampin', with some of the DT having to take some personal time and we sadly wave goodbye to our beloved Maarit. We hope to see her back soon and will be stalking her in blogland until then! Thinking of you sweetie and sending loads of love until we meet again. Hugs to you all out there in blogland. I just love how I can be writing from lil' ole New Zealand, thousands of miles away from most of you and yet share our thoughts, lives and loves through this wonderful hobby. See you again soon. Hugs, Wends x

Junglicious

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. Man I was in a funk yesterday. Horrid morning, doctors, blah blah blah. Anyhoo, I needed a wee cheer up and what better way, than sharing a cute kiddies card I made for Zac's best pal recently for his 6th birthday.

Yep, it's a shaker (mean tease, I know, the reveal is coming!) Can you guess what's lurking beneath all those gorgeous gold stars? Non other, than the cutest wee Lion you could ever imagine. I just LOVE the way Kristy draws animals. That gal is the bomb! Check out her Some Odd Girl fabulousness for more cute characters like this! Here's the reveal...

A sweet, simple, cute as, lil' birthday boy card. Zac's pal is nutty about Lion's so you can imagine how well that went down! I added some 'silver lining' to the cute woodchip clouds with some Wink of Stella across the bottom of both clouds (you get a peek of this in the first pic). I also added some to the 'Special' on the woodchip sentiment. Which I'll give you a closer peek at below.

Today's post comes courtesy of 'Squirrel's World' Random Challenge. Because it's just oh so perfect for that! As soon as I spotted this yesterday, I knew I had to blog this wee cutie I made the other day. So, here it is, and I'm off for a hot cuppa. It's crisp here today, and there's the smell of wet leaves in the air, Autumn is here!

Hugs to you all from Autumnal New Zealand, Wends x

Fab 'n' Funky ~ No Designer Papers

Hey there my lovely blog pals. It's time for a new challenge over on the Fab 'n' Funky Challenge blog and this week our wonderful hostess is Julieanne. Our theme this week chosen by the lovely Jools is 'No Patterned Paper'. Oooh, you know how I love my papers, so this IS a challenge! Head on over to the challenge blog to see how my awesomely talented teamies got on with that.

Here she is sweet Mermaid Rory from our lovely sponsor Lacy Sunshine, all sparkled up with Wink of Stella. It's such a lovely image, and I was excited about this creation, right up until I decided to add some 'seaweed' stamping up the sides. Oh dear, quelle tristesse! She did look so sweet right up until that point! Ever have one of those days where you just wish you could have a 'do over'? My daughter Georgie came out with a fun phrase the other day and today I could really have done with this! She made a mistake on her school work and said, "Oh no! Why doesn't life have a backspace button Mama?!" Beautifully put baby, today, I felt the same!

So it seems Mr Mojo is still on holiday. I had thought I had a pretty good idea for this challenge, but the reality did not match my imagination at all. Such a shame as it could have been fabulous! But I think my seaweed ink was too dark and spoiled the whole look. Still, these are my inky adventures and I learn from each one. I was so pleased with her hair and her tail, that I was bitterly disappointed when the 'seaweed' went so wrong. At this point, I've no idea how to 'save' this creation. So I'm just posting it here in the hopes that one of you has some super clever, 'never would have thought of that' solution. So feel free to share if you do!

I've coloured the image with Distress Ink and Distress Markers. Which came up so nicely and I had a lovely faint blue wash around her that looked so dreamy and lovely. If only I'd left it there and settled on the plain blue strip down the side. Oh well, we live and learn. (Sorry if I'm sounding really moany, I've just had a horrid day and this was the 'straw that broke the camel's back' as they say!)

The pic above is not in great lighting, I put the image right under the spots so that the Wink of Stella would show, but it messes with the light balance, so just focus on the pretty sparkles and ignore the rest. LOL.

Right I think that's more than enough from old moany pants tonight. Go check out what my fabulous (far less moany) teamies have been up to and come and join us for some 'No Patterned Paper' fun. I'd love to see what you'd do. It'll cheer me right up! Happy hugs to you all, Wends x

Update: So yesterday was a disaster, but today is another day and I've had a good laugh at myself and a second look at my wee mermaid. I can't get the lighting right to capture this card properly, so what follows is a little photo montage of 'the fixes'. Better I think. :)

Best pic of the true colours in the make, But this angle doesn't show the sparkles.

Under the spots, so hair not quite right, but look, sparkles!

Still under the spots, so the colour is a bit bleached, but here's a close up of the pretty sparkles.

Thanks for putting up with my strop yesterday, hope you like the changes and fixes I chose. I think it's infinitely better. A plain strip of paper down the side, a new 'straight' sentiment, and some glittery enamel dot bubbles. Much better me thinks!

Hugs, Wends x

Southern Girls ~ Anything Goes

Ever have one of those week where the Mojo goes AWOL? Aaargh, I've tried, I've really tried to get to grips with this layout but alas, I'm left wanting. It doesn't help that I chose something which isn't a strength for me. I just wanted to try something different! But enough of my moaning, despite my dissatisfaction with this creation, it is indeed time to introduce our next Southern Girls Challenge and this week it's a free for all with an 'Anything Goes' theme. So as long as 'your' crafty mojo hasn't taken a hike like mine, come and share your creativity with us this week over at The Southern Girls Challenge. We'd love to see what you've been inspired to create.

We are being sponsored for this challenge by Rick St Dennis and I really wanted to use this fabulous old Gypsy Wagon to create a Scrapbook Layout with for the challenge. I printed the image and the sentiment in an earthy tone for this layout. We had such a happy family day out at a Gypsy Fair earlier in the Summer, so as soon as I saw this fab image, I knew I wanted to use it to create a scrapbook layout of this day.

I wanted to capture some of the magic of our lovely family day out. But I am a scrapbooking novice, so I really have no idea what I'm doing! I threw all the ink I could at the page (courtesy of two gorgeous 'Grunge' sets of Lili of the Valley stamps) and I used a lovely gold foiled craft paper which was a Mother's Day gift from my daughter to create the basis of my layout. I used an old teabag to age the doily I used and used some deckle edged scissors to cut around the photos and the title.

I created a little pocket to add one more photo from the day as there was no room for it on the page. I also added a little journalling faux notebook page. So I wrote a few lines on the back of the diecut notebook page about the day. I added a wee cork heart to finish the pocket. I think these are fab, so it was nice to use on this layout. You can find them here at SpiegelMom Scraps. Now those girlies know how to scrap! I've a long way to go, but I'm not put off trying again.

I think I might add the date or at least year on the page too, but for now, the photos are done, so I will update later. The foiled paper has really caught the light in these picks and the background paper looks a bit faded out. It's actually a better colour match in reality, the paper is not so pale as it looks in the pics.

Head on over to the Southern Girls and join our 'Anything Goes' challenge, stop and enjoy the fabulous creations by my teamies while you're there. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Enjoy the rest of your week. Hugs, Wends x

Sweet Stampin' ~ May Flowers

Hey there my lovely blog buddies, hope you've had a good week. Mine has flown past and that means it's time again for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin'. We've a lovely theme for you this week which is (May) Flowers. We'd love to see anything with a flower on it, paper, image, embellie. As long as there's stamping and a flower of some description on your creation then you're in with a grin!

I've coloured this lovely image called Fairy Summer from The Greeting Farm with Distress Inks. I wanted to create a soft wash around her, so went for my distress inks rather than my Promarkers. I'm happy with the effect but I do need to do lots more practice with my Distress Inks and Markers. Oh to have more hours in the day!

I used a lovely striped paper from an MME paper pad which had a yummy honey coloured hue in it that worked well with my fairy's hair. The butterflies were on my craft desk, 'off cuts' from the cards I sent out with the winners parcels from my last candy. Speaking of candy, I just had a delivery of some fabulous stamps that I imported from Sweden ready for my next candy, I've been hunting the globe for these, so I was super excited to find them. It's going to be a good candy, so watch this space!

I've added some Wink of Stella to the darker shading on the fairy's wings, to the sentiment and the centre of the flower. I've also added it to the wings of the butterflies and created little trails behind them. Which of course hubby made rude remarks about. But I like them! The lovely sentiment is from a Lili of the Valley set called Fairy Sentiments. The button and flower are from the MFT Dienamics Blueprints 14 set. The wee tags are cut with a La-La Land Stitched Elements Die set.

We are being sponsored by the wonderful Crafty Ribbons for this challenge. So our winner is in for a fabulous prize pack. Why not join in with us, with your own (May) Flowers creation. We'd love to see what you do. Go check out what my awesome teamies have been up to for this challenge too while you're there linking up. They're a madly talented bunch. We say a sad farewell to two of our lovely teamies this week Jacky and Debbie. I'm deeply saddened by their departure. Happy crafty adventures to you both ladies. But on a happy note, we welcome back Sue to our team. We missed her, so it's fabulous to have her return. Welcome back my lovely.

I'll be back before long with another crafty adventure. In the meantime, I wish you a beautiful week, filled with sunshine and butterflies. Huge hugs, Wends x

Fab 'n' Funky ~ 3 or More Layers

Ooh I've a lovely post to share with you today. I had such fun creating this one! It's time of course for a new challenge on the Fab 'n' Funky blog and this week and our challenge is being hosted by the lovely Pat K. She has chosen the fabby theme '3 or More Layers'.

I do love a multilayered card, so I had great fun with this one. We are being sponsored this week by the fabulous Live & Love Crafts. Which those of you who follow my blog know how much I love Sandy's gorgeous store and all those shabby chic goodies! I just love the clever crafters who create shabby chic designs with such ease. I struggle with that style, but I do so love it! So today, in honour of our lovely sponsor Sandy, I've had a go at creating a slightly more shabby chic styled card. It's still not 'truly' shabby chic, but I'm delighted with it.

I've used a beautiful image from Crafts & Me artist Hannah Lynn. I just love her work, those eyes, I could get lost in them! Don't ask me what possessed me to give her purple hair, it was a fit of creativity and it just sort of happened. I'd like to have added one more, slightly darker shade to the shadow areas, but I was so pleased with it at this stage, I was petrified if I added one more darker shade I'd wreck it! I just have to keep playing and experimenting with my Promarkers, but I do love how the hair came out. Here she is in a more shaded light.

That yummy blue paper was such a lovely one from a Grace Taylor paper pad called Vintage Elegance. I just loved the embossed finish on the roses and I was drawn to adding some pretty pearl flourishes which toned in with the roses. I used the pearl flourish to create interest at the base of the card and popped the leftovers on the top right corner. You may recognize the sentiment from my 90th Birthday make. I really love this one from an older Whiff of Joy Sentiment Set by Katharina Frei called General Sayings, which I've added to a shaped tab die from La La Land. Here she is basking in the sunshine.

I've used a Go Kreate frame (Frilly #9) to cut the pretty card shape. The darker purple mat is a paint pot sample card, and the base of the butterflies, I cut from the middle of the paint pot mat before I stuck it down behind the image (sneaky eh, you'd never know!) I cut the second layer of the butterflies from a lighter textured cardstock and bent the wings up to give them dimension and make it look like they are in flight. I added some pretty holographic non-faceted gems down the spine to create their bodies. I tucked a heart doily behind the image and some cheesecloth for a soft romantic look. The image was cut with a wonky stitched die from Lil' Inkers.

Do head over to Live & Love Crafts and check out what the gorgeous Sandy has in store right now. She's just had some fabby deals on her gorgeous Maja Design papers from Sweden, so you know I couldn't resist! I just love all the gorgeous shabby chic goodies in that store!

Check out what my talented DT sister's at Fab 'n' Funky have been up to and come join us for some fun with our '3 or More Layers' challenge this week. I'd love to see what you'd do for it. I'm writing this post as I'm gearing up for the kiddos return to school. Uniforms all washed and clean, loads of holiday fun had and memories made - check! So I'll be busy for the next few days getting them settled back into school. Man I'm going to miss them! I love having them around during school break. Right, that's all from me today. I'll see you again soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, I wish you a fabulous week and loads of crafty fun! Hugs, Wends x
