Whimsy Stamps ~ Halloween Welcome Door Sign

Hey there crafty pals, I'm swinging in today with a fun lil' creation I made to welcome our neighbourhood kids on Halloween. I just ADORE this sweet image from Crissy Armstrong and really wanted to combine it with a class I had wanted to do last year from Mindy Baxter, but ran out of time to complete before last Halloween. So I have combined the two!

If you've not discovered Mindy Baxter's classes, I encourage you to take a look. They're so lovely and relaxing to do and I am always so happy with the resulting finished pieces. You can see some previous classes I did here, here and here. I've done a few now, but must confess, I've not had a chance to complete as many as I'd like to have. I've a few waiting for my attention! So this is also why I'm so excited to have completed this one!

Now of course, Mindy's Class featured above was supposed to use Crissy's gorgeous Penguin Spook Nite, which I still have plans to colour up at a later date, but I wanted to use the clever background that Mindy taught for this class, to create my door hanger using another of Crissy's gorgeous images called Ellie's Halloween. There were so many elements that were easily substituted. I even did the cute cat stripes, like Mindy's original from the sweet penguin version.

You may have seen the black and white version of this shot that I shared on Instagram as a sneak peek, because I was so excited to have finished! Hehe, I just couldn't wait to post! But didn't want to spoil the big reveal. So here it is in colour now, with the cute kitty and a few other details showing. It really was the most fun class!

After I finished all the fun colour work, I wanted to add some little details that made it 'mine', so used some cute little bats from a Whimsy Stamps Die called Bats and Bubbles and added them fluttering around behind Ellie. This die is wonderful for cutting a few little bats in varying sizes all at once. Gorgeous as a border of course, but the off cuts are fabulous too! I also used a sparkle Gelly Roll pen to add highlight to the cobweb in Ellie's hat. I think it's such a cute detail and didn't want it to get lost in the background. So carefully created my freehand drawn church around the hat, not drawing the extra steeple as suggested in the tutorial, so as not to loose this sweet element in that.

I added the Happy Halloween sentiment to the dirt path I'd drawn to finish the creation and mounted the coloured panel onto plain black cardstock, I then used a corner rounder on the top corners, punched two holes along the top and threaded some string through for hanging the sign on the door. A cute and hopefully welcoming Halloween Door Sign.

Now I spotted recently, that our awesome Whimsy artist Crissy Armstrong has collaborated with Mindy Baxter to create images especially for her latest class and I can't even begin to tell you how this makes my heart happy. I so enjoy Mindy's classes and if you know me well, you'll know how much I adore Crissy's images! So this is a win/win for me! Check out these cuties! They come with the most amazing scenes too, all created to combine with these adorable exclusive images by Crissy. Sigh, I need more time now!
