Southern Girls ~ It's A Stick Up
Happy Halloween my lovely blog pals. The kiddos and I had a super fun night on Tuesday. We all paid for it the next morning, not cool that Halloween should fall on a school night!! But man did we have fun of the 'too cute to spook' variety! I'll share some pics a little further down the post. But I need to share the reason for this post, which is of course, time for a new challenge at Southern Girls. This week, we have a fun (and I think really easy) challenge for you. We want you to use 'stickers' on your creations. They could be sentiment stickers, enamel dots, sticky back pearls or gems, thickers, you name it, as long as it comes in a 'sticker' form, it's eligible. Just be sure to let us know what your 'sticker element' was, as it's not always so easy to tell! Can you spot mine? Trick question, because the first pic doesn't have any on it!
I finished this card knowing who the sponsor was, but not yet the theme, (which is a bit sneaky, working too far ahead on a DT project, but I figured I'd wing it) so the card was essentially 'finished'. I had my inky fun, using traditional distress inks, masking the image first and then spraying the ink work with Glimmer Mist to get a lovely all over shimmer to the creation. Before I did any of my ink work though, I coloured the moon and four stars yellow with my Promarkers and then added Glossy Accents. I'd read somewhere that dry Glossy Accents work a treat for the 'resist technique'. So I gave it a go! Left to dry overnight, just to be sure it was dry right through. I coloured the wee ghosty witch and her frog with my Promarkers too. I only had to mask my witchy ghost, as the stars would resist the ink, which considering how tiny they are and how fiddly masking them would have been, I think it was an inspired choice! Now I just have to remember to do this on future 'fiddly bits' cards.
This cute image is from our sponsor 2 Cute Ink, but from their Lil' Inker's range. I just loved this stamp when I saw it. The sentiments that come with this super cute image are so funny too! It took a while for my 7 year old to figure out why the sentiment on my card was funny, but once he got it, he thought it was hilarious. I used this card and another I made recently, as part of my Halloween decorations. So there were a number of people at our little post Trick or Treating Spider Pizza party who were giggling at the sentiment. It was quite a hit! The uncoloured image on the stamp platform, is one I stamped for another card, with lots of the little stamped stars. But for this card, I only did a few, so the natural thing to do, to fit our theme, was of course add 'sticky stars'!
I hunted for yellow enamel stars, that being my first instinct, to keep with the yellow star theme, but alas, I had only a couple in my collection, which wouldn't give the 'blanket of stars' effect I was hoping for. So I pulled out my small iridescent gems in two different sizes and scattered them across the top half to create that blanket of stars. I didn't like it at first, as I was quite fond of the more CAS design. But I have to say, it's grown on me, and sitting in the evening light, the little stars are twinkling out of the corner of my eye on the sideboard, where the Halloween decorations are still set up. So I think it was the perfect fix.
I hope you'll come and join the 'sticky' fun with us this challenge and show us what you're inspired to do with our theme. Check out my awesomely talented teamies and their fab creations on the blog too. I'll be back before long with the promised candy (it was just Halloween after all) and another crafty adventure. In the meantime, have an awesome week and Happy Halloween! Hugs, Wends xoxo
