Whimsy Stamps ~ May New Digital Release ~ Day 3

Hey there my lovely blog pals. I'm going to put up a 'place-holder' post tonight, as I had to swap out the card I'd previously made (all will be revealed later) for another cutie that I'd prepped for our new releases and I've not time now to write the full post having spent the day with my sis and her newborn. But here, stepping in last minute, with his cutest wellies, is Penguin's Rainy Day.

This is still a WIP as I haven't yet added the sentiment! But I'll add that tomorrow and update the post then. I originally intended this to be a shaker card, only I stuck the front frame to the foam, before I added the acetate! LOL, numpty!! Once I realised my mistake, a new plan formed. I decided I'd fussy cut this cutie and use the 'frame' to set the scene, and then have the image set up on foam, in the centre of it. A happy mistake, as I think this is so sweet. In the fussy cutting, I shifted the wee droplet from under the umbrella to above his hand which created a really sweet new focal point. Love this sweet image so much! I'll fill in more detes tomorrow. Right now, it's pitch black outside and there's an Autumn chill in the air, so I'm off to bed! Hugs to you all until I can get back with the updates, Wends xoxo

***********************************

Right, I'm back, I've managed to finish the card today and taken some pics. So let me carry on the post now I've had time to pull it all together...

Here is the wee cutie I worked with to create this card. It is of course Crissy Armstrong's talented pen that's responsible for this sweet image. I've coloured this cutie with my cool grey Copic Markers and paper pieced the brolly. I've added Wink of Stella in blue to the brolly to show the lines where the metal struts would be shaping the brolly. I added a stripe to the wee ducky's hat too. Such a cutie.

At first I had the penguin just against the background with nothing behind, but it got a bit lost in all the 'blue', I was hunting around trying to find a tiny doily or shape that I could cut to put behind it, to mat it slightly, when I spotted the circular 'track' from my Whimsy Stamps 'Slip and Slide' set and a plan came together. I didn't really want to block out the background, just give a little break in the line, so it gave something for the eye to focus on, it was seriously just a sea of blue before this. I cut out the track and laid it behind the penguin, what a difference that one tiny touch made! I'm so happy with it. The other trick I did, to improve the finish of the card, was to run a dark blue Promarker along the inside and outside of the foam layer behind the die cut square frame. This changed it from a white border along the inside and out to a seamless blue frame. So simple, but so effective. It helped that I matched the colour of the paper 'exactly' with the Promarker. The background paper and the paper I used to paper piece the brolly are both from the Whimsy Stamps Going Dotty digital paper set.

I've used a lovely sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps Vintage Sentiments digital set designed by the lovely Bev Rochester. There are some great sentiments in the set and they suit many different situations. I thought this was very sweet to accompany this wee rainy day pal. I added a couple of little diecut clouds to finish the card design which are from the fabulous Stitched Clouds set from Whimsy Stamps. All the Whimsy Stamps products I've used are linked below, so just click through for a closer look in the store.

Thanks for popping in to visit and if you saw my post last night, for bearing with me while I finished up the rest of the creation. I did have a card prepped for my second DT creation, but decided to wait to share that one a little later on. I'll reveal the reasons why then. Do head on over to the Whimsy Stamps Facebook page to check what my talented Digital Design Diva sisters have been up to with the new release images. They're SO fabulous! I'll be back with more Whimsy Stamps inspiration next week, until then, have fun checking out the new releases. Hugs xoxo

As You Like It: Favourite Animal ~ I love Firefoxes, but you don't see many of those in stamps and I've rather fallen in love with the sweet penguins from Whimsy Stamps of late, so in the stamping world, my favourite currently is these wee penguins. I have a large number of penguins from different artists I've coloured over time. So they've been a fav' for a while.

Beautiful spring day here, the sun is shining again at last, hoping spring is here to stay this time, we've had enough rain and cold!
