Whimsy Stamps ~ Hope Your Day is Hunky Dory!

Hey crafty friends, I've a sweet and fun make to share with you tonight. You may recognise the background as I shared a hint of it on my IG page, as I had a go using this with another stamp first, but felt it looked better on a more muted background, so pulled it off and tucked it away until I could find the 'right' image to pair it with. I so enjoyed creating this patchwork background and really didn't want to cover it too much, so although the first permutation was 'okay', I was thrilled with it and knew I'd find a better fit. I'm so happy I did that too, because these sweet bees turned out to be the perfect pairing! I'll show you the first card and you can tell me what you think.

Krista Heij-Barbers images are some of my favourites at Whimsy. Her often quirky and cute characters just have such a sweetness about them. I am really happy with how this turned out with these sweet bees.

The patchwork background was created by laying double sided tape all over the base layer and then adding diecut hexagons in different toning papers to create that fun patchwork quilt look. I used a sweet Spring Slimline paper pack from Whimsy called Buttercup to create the background. All the papers in this pack work so beautifully together, so it was easy to find a good mix of toning papers. I so loved how the background came out, covering it as much as the first image did, just didn't sit well with me. Below is the first image I paired it with, hopefully you'll see what I mean about it not being a perfect fit.

I felt the image covering that central hexagon lost some important details in the background and I also felt although that image is super cute, it just wasn't 'right' for this background. Cue the bees! I just adore the way these cuties fit with the background and found a perfect sentiment pairing too.

These images are so cute and some of the details quite small, so I added back in some catchlight details in the eyes with white gelly roll pen after colouring and also added a few sparkle spots on the wings for a bit of interest and fun. My Wink of Stella is running out and the Gelly Roll Sparkle pen is too opaque to cover the whole wing with, so a few sparkly dotty details I felt was enough. Paired with a cheery yellow envelope, this wee card was done!

It's Team Susan's week at Sweet Stampin' this week, but their theme is 'Things with Wings', so I've shared this cutie over there too, as it fits the theme so well! I hope you'll come and play along with us too. It's a great theme with plenty of room for interpretation! I will be back with another crafty adventure soon. In the meantime I wish you a wonderful weekend and happy crafting! Hugs, Wends xoxo

This patchwork background is amazing and very eye-catching. I can see how much work went into putting it together. Those little bees are so cute and I can see why you prefer your second version to the first. That said, I like the 1st one as well. Thanks for joining us at Cardz 4 Galz, Johanna DT

I couldn't possibly choose Wends, it's like asking to pick a favourite child!! However, I do "get" what you mean about the bunny overpowering the beautiful background and those bumble bees are adorable!! A superb make, as always xx
