Fab 'n' Funky ~ CAS
What a start to the week! Little dude awake all Sunday night with nasty earache. Took him to see the doc and he vomited all over the car afterwards! Poor little sausage, he's been really miserable. So he's having a mooch on the couch while I write up this post and mama's keeping an eagle eye on him. Apart from my little man's poorly dramas, the week is shaping up rather well. Only three nights this week that I'm feeding two families and Tuesday night, I'm off to Mumford & Sons. I can't wait! Hopefully my small poorly dude will have bounced back a little by then.
But of course today, I'm here to tell you about the latest challenge over on the Fab 'n' Funky blog. My baby brother turns 40 on Tuesday, so this card, is his birthday card. Our theme was chosen this week by our lovely Ginny and it's Clean & Simple! We're being sponsored by the fabulous Dr Digi's House of Stamps. If you're after something fun and cheeky or cool and classic, Dr Digi has something for you!
I didn't have anything 'quite right' in my multitude of sentiment stamps, so I wrote this sentiment up with one word different initially and hubby noted how close it was to the 'One Does Not Simply Walk Into Mordor' Meme, so I altered where I had put the 'simply' to hat tip that meme. Because that added another layer of fun to the card. Thanks hubby!
I've used watercolour paper for this make and coloured the cool old Wurlitzer-like jukebox from Dr Digi's House of Stamps up with Distress inks and Promarkers. I'm so happy with the glow I managed to achieve on the yellow lighted areas. I tried to create a woodgrain effect on the wooden elements too, which was less successful, but I think I got away with it. I was so nervous colouring in all the silver bits! One wrong move with my Letraset Metallic Silver Marker and I knew I'd ruin the whole thing, but fortunately it came together quite well. I tried to capture the shine when taking this pic.
Hubby came up with an awesome idea to add a few 'notes' around the jukebox, but do you know, that's the one die I don't actually have! I didn't dare try to draw them myself and muff up the card. So I went instead for some 'barely there' sequins to add that final finish. I was really unsure about them at first, but I've got to say, they're growing on me.
I added a strip of distressed gingham paper down the left of the card and mounted the image panel on fun foam to elevate it slightly from the card base. I also mounted the word 'Classic' on gingham and raised it with foam tape. The lovely distressed gingham is from Raspberry Road's Apple Cinnamon papers. I also decorated the inside of the card with the gingham paper and added a cheeky sentiment for my brother. (Sorry about the wonky photo!)
Finally another piccie of the jukebox. I'm so pleased with how this came together. I layered up the colour so carefully and I'm so pleased I didn't ruin it when I added the silver accents. This pic was taken in a different light. Showcasing the details slightly differently.
Thanks for popping in today. It so makes my day when you do. Say hi and I'll be sure to come visit you too. Do pop into the Fab 'n' Funky blog to see what my incredibly talented teamies have been up to this week. We hope you'll join us with your own CAS design. Have an awesome week and I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends x

As You Like It: Favourite Hobby. Well, just between you and me, I was the lead singer in a band when I was younger. I LOVED it and had great fun playing the crowds and entertaining the masses. But I couldn't keep at it when I started nursing as the hours killed any social life! So this make (although it's for my brother's birthday) hat tips that musical era of mine. (My brother is an awesome singer too.) I still love to sing, but making cards has taken front position as my favourite hobby. I do love to spin some tunes while I'm crafting though!
