Fab 'n' Funky ~ Just Add Ink
Hey there crafty pals. I'm back tonight with a card I've pulled out of the vault! I have had this card for a while and so wanted to share it, but never quite had the right theme to share it for. So when this theme popped up on our Design Team page, I thought rather than create a new card, I'd give this wee make it's day in the Sun. I LOVED making this card and there's a fun story behind it too.
My gorgeous nephew was staying with us when he celebrated his 14th birthday. That year his dad bought him this amazing computer, it was an Alienware Gaming Computer and to say that he was in his element with this bit of tech is an understatement. It was a beautiful bit of tech and came in this amazing black box with layers of cardboard that created a multi-level alien face. Of course, crafter that I am, I took one look at that and went 'template'! So as he was bringing things up to put in the recycling, crafty aunty picked them out again and turned those bits of beautifully cut out cardboard into crafty templates to create this Alien card for his birthday.
I used watercolour as my medium, laying down some colour as a base for the main design first. I added some splatters for effect and then I traced inside the cardboard template from the box, first the eyes, as this was a seperate layer from the face and once I'd traced inside those, I used the faceshape template and filled in the gaps between the two with watercolour. I love how the edges are darker, it looks intense. That was unintentional, but I LOVE the effect.
I printed a sentiment onto the cardstock using my laser printer which back then was behaving nicely. I've since sent it to the home for retired and naughty printers. I found a really fun futuristic font and added a bit of a drop shadow on it for effect. So crazy pleased with how that worked. Don't ask me to do it again, I can't remember how I did it in the first place! LOL. Seriously, my grey's are showing!! LOL
I hope you'll come and join us this week at Fab 'n' Funky for our 'Just Add Ink' challenge. This theme was chosen by our lovely Chris and I'm so happy to get to share my very patient Alien with you finally. I really did love crafting this one and my nephew was so delighted with it, it was a real hit! I so look forward to seeing what you're inspired to create. Do stop into the blog and check out what my awesomely talented teamies got up to for this challenge. You're sure to leave plenty inspired. I'll be back again very soon. Hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
