Spellbinders ~ Dancin' Douglas
Hey crafty friends, I'm back with another of the cute kinetic cards I've made recently. This time with the cute fir tree image called Dancin' Douglas. I have Douglas Fir Essential Oil in my aromatherapy kit, so it tickled me that they called this die set Dancin' Douglas. I made quite a large card, this one is an A7 size card, so there's plenty of room for his swinging legs and a sentiment.
I used the wonderful All Dressed Up 3D Embossing Folder again for this card. It creates just such a wonderful texture in the background and I thought it was a great fit for this card as it made me think of tinsel wrapped around a Christmas tree. I chose not to actually decorated this tree, as I really loved the look of the ink smooshed background I created. So I left off the baubles, but they do come in the set as little diecuts or I had imagined adding little sequins or pearls to embellish the tree. I might have to do a second one soon to try out those ideas.
I used a lovely sentiment for this card, which is from the Season of Wonder Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. I gold heat embossed it on the same lovely dark Forest Card Stock from Spellbinders and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink just to add a little drama and depth to the edges. I did this for the embossed base layer too. It's a subtle touch, but really does give it a finished feel up close.
I've spoken in previous posts about the specific way I've added the swinging legs to the card bases and remembered to snap a pic at this stage for this card. These 3D Foam Circles from Scrapbook Adhesives are THE perfect size for this particular set of swinging leg characters. The size of the hole is consistant across these sets, so finding the perfect circular dimensional adhesive was a real win! It means there's no fighting with square edges on dimensional foam shapes that aren't quite right for the action of these legs. The fully circular shape is perfect on these and the fact that it fits the hole perfectly, means there's no additional wobble, just an easy and fluid swing back and forth. I tried a few different options along the way and this was by far the best. Happily these are available from both Whimsy and Scrapbook.com.
I can't resist including a couple of pics with his legs swinging. I did try to do a reel of this cute wee dancer, but the card is quite big and my phone is having charging issues, so I couldn't far enough back for a good shot and kept tripping on the charging cable. Needless to say, I aborted that idea. At least there are reels of some of these other cute dancers full swing. I think he's so cute with this little woodgrain shoes and with his little lantern. There are some other fun elements in the die set. But the lantern was the one I was drawn to. I diecut the lantern from silver cardstock and yellow for the centre, which I added some Copic Marker details to, for the flame. I added a little silver star to the top of the tree too. There are a couple of options in the set and I think the star is super cute.
