Spellbinders ~ Dancin' Christmas Friends ~ Kinetic Creations
Hey crafty friends, I have a super cute card to share with you today which was made with one of the Dancin' Friends Collection from Spellbinders. This is Dancin' Moose Klondike and he is adorable! It's an absolute bonus that his long lanky legs swing in such a fun way as you rock the card side to side! I know my nieces and nephews are going to have such fun with these creations this Christmas. I have a fun reel over on Instagram showing off his cute swinging legs. You can see that here. I've shared previously the cute Gnome I made from this set here and I have two more that I've finished and will share soon. So I've only one more to make, to have a kinetic card for all the young ones in our extended family.
I went for bright, non-traditional Christmas colours for this make. I started with the cool 3D Holiday Lights Embossing Folder from Spellbinders and used the matching Stencil to colour up these little bulbs quickly and easily for the background, so fun! I did spray the panel before embossing it with water with some Perfect Pearls in it, so I did wait a little bit for the panel to dry before doing the stencilling. I kept the palette quite simple, but I may get a bit more adventurous next time and add in an extra colour or two. It would be so easy, thanks to the Stencil Set.
I really love having the stencil as part of this set! It can be used alone or with the embossing folder and it makes colouring up the little bulbs, so very quick and easy. If you like this embossing folder, I highly recommend getting the stencil set with it. It just makes colouring the bulbs so much faster and no risk of messy bloops, so fun!! I left the embossed panel in the folder while I used the stencil, so I didn't accidentally crush any of the embossed detail while I was adding the colour through the stencil. This worked a treat and I'll do it again. I used Squeezed Lemonade Oxide Ink for the yellow bulbs, Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide for the orange bulbs and Lost Shadow for the bases of the bulbs.
I diecut Klondike from Neenah Desert Storm Cardstock and added details with my Copic Markers. I also added some fun details to this lil' guys sweater by using cardstock that had been sprayed with Mica Stains. I used Harvest Moon for the yellows and the orange was done with the Spiced Marmalade Spritz. I think his lil' orange wellies are super cute!
I've added lots of layers to this card. The 3D Embossing Folder background is so textured and dimensional, so I added the gingham ribbon strip with little foam dots, so it would lay evenly over the textured background. I added these in the recessed areas and used dots with a high enough loft, so the strip would lay flat and even all the way across. I then added the layer with Klondike in a similar fashion. But added another layer of foam dot with a low loft, to bump this layer up just a tiny bit from the one beneath. It's great having foam dots with different lofts now. I used a mix of 2mm and 1mm loft on this card. I also added dimension on Klondike this same way. You can see in the pic above, his head is raised higher than his sweater. I did the double up loft for the layer under his head. This would have been easier if I'd had some 3mm loft foam dots, but I didn't think I'd need those until now. I'm off now to add some to the shopping cart!
I tried out some sentiment options and didn't mind this option below, but in the end, decided I'd stamp the sentiment on the inside of the card, which I actually do quite often. I don't always allow for a sentiment in my design. I need to get better and planning that from the get go! But I think there's enough going on with this one and it's no possible to add a dimensional sentiment anywhere near the swinging legs, or it will interrupt their movement, so I'm happy with this one as is.
Thanks for popping in to say hi today. I hope you like this lil' kinetic Christmas creation. I'll be back shortly with the next two in the set. I'm keen to share these together, but it's easier to give them their own post. So they'll be coming at you like London buses!
