Whimsy Stamps ~ Spooky!
Happy September friends! It's time for all things Autumn and Halloween related at Whimsy Stamps. It's one of my favourite times of the year as I really enjoy creating for Autumn and Halloween. I'm a real Autumn girl, I wear those colours year round and I just adore the temperate weather, the snuggly sweaters, the spiced lattes. It is of course Spring here in New Zealand, we've had endless rain all Winter and as I sit writing this post, it's pouring outside, so I'm not sure I'll notice the difference of 'Spring Showers'. But it still fills me with optimism. Autumn and Spring are my two favourite seasons and though Autumn is not my season here, I adore crafting for it, so you'll see a few Autumnal makes and more than a few Halloween ones over the next couple of months. I apologise in advance if it's not really 'your thing'. But I hope you'll enjoy the creativity, even if you don't celebrate Halloween.
For my first creation this month, I've embraced some Halloween icons and used those to create my first Halloween card of the season. I've used five different Whimsy Stamps die sets to create this card, but I think they all work well together and was pleased with how my vision came together. I was trying to spell out SPOOKY and tried several different ideas of layout before settling on this one. I've seen it done on a card that was two squares wide and three deep, where the word SPOOKY was spelled out across and down the page, which works perfectly, but I wanted to use this cool postage stamp die from Whimsy. So had to play around with how to fit the letters in so it read properly but also so the icons worked and looked balanced. Let me know what you think of the option I settled on.
I cut the bats and wolf from a wonderful textured black cardstock with a metallic effect. The spider I cut from the same shimmery cardstock I cut the letters from, but covered the spiders body with black stickles glue. In the right light, it shines and sparkles so nicely. Our rainy day today, put a stop to capturing that sparkle well.
The background I created by ink blending in four different oxide colours. This mix was Aged Mahogany, Fired Brick and Saltwater Taffy with Black Soot around the edges to deepen and create a more spooky feel. I splattered the panel generously with water and then with a Lindy's Moonlight Shadow Mist in Smoky Sapphire. I popped up the frame of the die with black double sided adhesive foam, but stuck the aperture centres flat to the card base so the alternating heights added a bit of dimension and interest. The critters were added with this same black foam, so it matched the dimensions of the frame, the spider however, I added two layers of foam, so it sits a little higher than the rest, for that extra spook factor.
Thanks for popping in to visit today. I hope you enjoyed my first Halloween project for the season. I'll be back soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs and happy crafting adventures of your own until then xoxo

I receive a small commission, which costs you no extra, but helps these companies see where their marketing efforts are most effective from their DT and for me helps towards the higher cost of postage to New Zealand. I only design for companies whose products I love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own. If you're new to Whimsy Stamps, please feel free to use the discount code in my sidebar.)
