Simon Says Stamp Card Kits ~ Mother's Day Cards with Tim Holtz Stencils and Stamps
Hey crafty friends, I am popping in with two cards I've created for my wonderful mothers. I am blessed to have two strong, resilient, loving mother figures in my life and had great joy creating these two cards tailored especially for each of them. I used one of the lovely floral images in the Simon Says Stamp April Card Kit to create their Mother's Day cards. I have to say, I absolutely love how they both turned out. I personalised each one with elements that would resonate for them. I used some stamps and stencils from recent Tim Holtz releases for personalising the cards. I used elements from two lovely Simon Says Stamp Kits my hubby bought me as a birthday gift. I’m loving so many of these kits this past year and they’re a treat to get all the way here in New Zealand, so it was lovely to create these cards with some recent kits.
I used the same base paper layer for the two cards, but personalised each of them with slightly different elements. I used the same page of paper from a Paper Rose Paper Pack called Amberley Grove. I love that they look different and yet have a similar vibe running through the two creations. I stamped 'blessed' on the front of each of the cards and this sentiment is finished inside the cards with the rest of the message which reads 'to call you Mum'.
I absolutely love how the beautiful stamps from the April 2025 Simon Says Stamp Card Kit worked in combination with the extra elements I used from these new Tim Holtz sets. I wanted to personalise my mum's card with some French themed stamps. We lived just south of Paris for five years when I was a little girl, so France has a special place in my mum's heart. Her favourite colour is purple, so I coloured the blooms for her card in a lovely deep purple hue. I used stamps from the Tim Holtz set with Stampers Anonymous called French Marketplace. I knew I had to have this set, for just this sort of special make. I used elements from the set to stamp on the Paper Rose page and also to add some details to the image panel. I really love how it all looks together. I used Vintage Photo Ink to distress the edges of the base paper and also the image panel.
My mother-in-law's favourite colour is blue. So I coloured her blooms with a cornflower blue hue. She's a creative soul like me, she's a quilter and has made our family some incredibly beautiful heirloom quilts over the years. I spotted a sentiment in the Tim Holtz Mixed Media 15 stamp and stencil kit, which I thought would be a fun hat tip to her creativity. The image panel obscures it slightly, so I also stamped it on the back of her card, so she could enjoy reading the full sentiment. I used VersaFine Clair Sand Dune Ink to stamp the details on the card and if I recall correctly, I used Tea Dye Distress Oxide Ink to stencil the lovely scroll details from the stencil in the Mixed Media 15 set. I'm quite late to the party collecting Tim Holtz stamp sets, so it has made my whole year, having these curated releases from previous years! I'm adding a few sets to my collection here and there.
Taking my cue from the gentle sway in the bottom of the floral image from the Simon Says Stamp April 2025 Card Kit, I used a circle die to cut the panel into a circle. I wanted as much of the background stamping to show as possible, so I adhered it over toward the left hand edge on each card and to give a cohesive finish, trimmed the panel with a stitched rectangle die once the image panel was in place. I paired Mum's card with a lovely rich purple envelope to complete the design. This is from a rainbow set of envelopes from Simon Says Stamp.
I wanted to add some detailing to the image panel of my mother-in-law's card too, so I pulled out some stamp elements for the Simon Says Stamp May 2025 Card Kit, which had some fantastic mixed media style stamps, inspired by Tim Holtz images. I believe this set was designed in collaboration with Tim. So the mix of elements was perfect together. I used softer tones to add the distressed edges to my mother-in-laws card, as her flowers were so soft in hue, I didn't want to overwhelm them with stronger colours. I used Tea Dye Oxide Ink to stencil the lovely scroll pattern from the Mixed Media 15 set and to add the distressing to the image panels. I used pretty scrolls and stamps I knew she would enjoy. These are simple designs, but tailored for each of these precious women who mean so much to me.
I used a Glitter Brush Marker to add some gentle sparkle to the centres of the blooms and the butterfly wings. Both cards were trimmed to an A2 size with the stitched rectangle die and then mounted onto a Top Folding A2 card base. I paired this card with a soft muted blue envelope which comes from an older envelope set in my stash and worked well with the periwinkle blue of the flowers. Both flowers were watercoloured with Pinkfresh Studio inks. Thanks for stopping in today friends. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends xoxo
