Whimsy Stamps ~ July Longings - Pumpkin Spice Latte
Hey crafty friends, I'm over on the Whimsy Stamps Video Channel today with a fun Autumn themed creation featuring some coffee themed elements with a hat tip to Pumpkin Spice Latte. My favourite beverage in the Autumn months.
This was a really fun card to share my creative process for. I used a couple of elements I'd prepped last year during our Halloween season, that I never got to complete as a make, so the background on that fun heart shaped card base was prepped in advance using Simon Says Stamp water reactive inks. I talk through the process of creating this in the video. The coffee cup which comes from the Whimsy Stamps Coffee Time Die Set, is now in the sale section of the Whimsy Stamps Store. It's a really fun set and I've used it before for with a Christmas twist here.
I used Tim Holtz Cracked Leather cardstock to diecut the coffee cup from and then sprayed it liberally with Distress Mica Spray Stain in Burning Ember, Mulled Cider and Jack-o-Lantern, then spritzed some Distress Spritz in Spiced Marmalade over top for that extra bit of mica shimmer. It's very shimmery and shiny up close and in the right light.
I used the very cool Halloween Expressions Stencil to add the fun and cute Jack-o-Lantern face to the Coffee Cup. I have a crafty friend who has an incredible collection of Halloween themed coffee mugs and cups and I was thinking of her when I was creating this. I used Tim Holtz Black Texture Paste from Ranger to add the stencilled details. This stuff is fabulous. I did that stencilling almost 12 months ago and it hasn't cracked or lifted. It's fabulous.
The fun background stamping was done with the Coffee Understands Stamp Set, freehand with a small acrylic stamping block. I didn't get the pressure even on all of these when stamping them, so I came in and fixed areas that had artifacts, stamping that had warped slightly, with a Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Black Pen. You'll notice that the main sentiment looks a little rough on the right hand edge. This was due to glue seepage when I was trying adhere that section over the frothy element. Super annoying and needs to be restamped and swapped out, but I left that in there to show what glue can do to water reactive inks. Extra care needs to be taken adding glue around edges with water reactive inks.
The fun frothy effect on the cup I wanted to look like cream topping. I used the new White Heat and Fluff Pen from Simon Says Stamp. It didn't froth exactly as I was hoping, I hoped for big swirls, but still created a fun effect. I dragged my ink sponge over the froth with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink to add a coffee tint as you'd find on crema in a coffee cup. I love wrapping twine for a little extra interest and it worked well on this card. I show how I got that twine to stay put in the video, a little tip and trick for a shaped card. I topped the twine with a sweet orange heart embellishment which I bought from Kiwi Craft Store Loose Lemon but these are widely available in craft stores. If you'd like to see the making of this creation, check out the video below.
I've been making videos for a little while now and enjoying sharing my creative process, but this is my first time sharing over on the Whimsy Stamps channel. I'm looking forward to working with the Video Team this creative term and bringing my creative process to you in this way. Please consider following the Whimsy Stamps Video Channel if you enjoy crafty videos, they have a talented team of creators sharing their makes and they all bring something a little different to the table. I'm getting pretty excited for our Whimsy Halloween Season which kicks off in August. I can't wait! Until then, I wish you a beautiful July and wonderfully creative month. Hugs, Wends xoxo
(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
