Whimsy Wednesday ~ Rainbow Sparkle Fairy
Hey there crafty pals. I'm bringing you another Whimsy Wednesday post today. But this time, I'm not quite done! I've been hunting for some gorgeous Whimsy papers I had printed, but can't now lay my hands on. Bah, typical. I spent the day in my lovely sister's garden, so she took some shots for me of what I'd done so far. I'm desperate to share this colouring as I just LOVE how it came out!
I've used a beautiful image by Whimsy Stamps artist and designer Crissy Armstrong called Spread Love. I just find this image, utterly enchanting! So when I saw it was the image for Mindy Baxter's current monthly tutorial, I just knew I wanted to do that class! Her sweet design added by hand the clouds and rainbow and the hand-drawn sparkles. Honestly, I've done a few of her classes now and I find them so lovely to colour along with! I definitely have a less is more approach to colour. I didn't lay down quite as much colour as Mindy suggested, so my sky is much 'clearer blue'. But that's just a design choice by me, I really loved the clear blue sky and the puffy white clouds. I just felt it set up the rainbow scene so beautifully.
I ended up using a different pink combo for the dress too, as I didn't have all the colours for the pinks Mindy used. But I really love this extra candy pink version! I think it's super cute. I also had to substitute a green in the rainbow, but think that came out okay. I love the 'sheer' peek through the wings to the cloud behind too. It's subtle but there.
I loved doing this tutorial, especially colouring Crissy's delish fairy. So if you fancy some colouring I highly recommend both Mindy's tutorials and Crissy's gorgeous images. I'll be back again as soon as I find that paper to finish my card! Until then, have a wonderful week xoxo
Update: I'm back with the finished card. I never did find the paper I was hunting. But I decided to keep the design very simple. I layered the image over cheesecloth for a bit of texture and popped it up on foam to create dimension. Very CAS otherwise to allow the colouring to have centre stage.
I took a pic of the card before adding the sentiment as I wasn't sure if I'd like it after adding the sentiment. I actually like it both ways, so it was interesting to compare! The sentiment I've had in my stash forever. It's from Magnolia if I recall correctly.
I think the sentiment is so perfect for this card and works perfectly. I was so worried I was going to stamp it wonky, as it's a rubber sentiment, so I couldn't see exactly how it was going to lay down. But my Tim Holtz platform came to the rescue and I used a test strip to check the alighment before stamping the actual card. I used a Denim Blue ink to stamp the sentiment so it wasn't too stark and I like that softer look. Thanks for stopping in. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends xoxo
