Whimsy Stamps ~ You're Dino-mite!

Hey crafty friends, I'm back with a fun card I made for a little one in our family who is celebrating their 5th birthday. I know this interactive kinetic card will be a lot of fun. I used a template to create the shutter card as I'd not made one before and it was quick and easy with the template. I used some lovely Whimsy Stamps papers as the base of the design, called Scribdoodle Critters.

I created a gatefold card and added two panels of paper from the Scribdoodle Critters paper pack on the front. I chose a quirky floral paper in beige and blue tones. I created a 'belly-band' sleeve to keep the card shut and added a stitched circle diecut and a lovely star wreath on top which was diecut from white glitter cardstock. I embellished it with some sequins and then added the fun 'you're dino-mite' sentiment with Versafine Ink in the centre.

I used another paper from the same Scribdoodle Critters Paper Pad to decorate the inside in toning shades. This page had fun quirky egg shapes all over it, which was perfect for the little image I'd chosen to take centre stage. I used a toning paper from the Whimsy Slimline Paper Pad, Champagne, to create the aperture window and stamped the sentiments on this with a turquoise dye ink. These sentiments are from the soon to be retired Happy Hamsters Stamp Set. This set is so cute, so if you like it, grab it before it's gone! It's at a hugely reduced price right now and the matching dies too.

The adorable little dinosaur I coloured with Copic Markers and fussy cut to fit the aperture. I ink blended and splattered the background first. The plain duck-egg papers in this creation are from a slimline paper pad by Scrapbook.com. All these elements I'll link in the thumbnails below.

I decorated the back of the card with a plain white page, to give a place to write a message, since the shutter design doesn't allow for this on the inside of the card. I stamped another sentiment from the Roar, Stomp, Chomp Stamp Set that reads 'A Roaring Success' and will add a handwritten message before this to say 'Hoping your birthday is...' which will tie things together nicely I think.

Thanks for popping in to visit today and I hope you're inspired to try one of these aperture cards. I enjoyed using the easy kit for this card, but you do not need a kit to create these and most folks will have what they need in their stash already. There are loads of tutorials on the web that share how to create them. One of my favourites is by the lovely Sam Calcott. I'll drop the tutorial below for you, for easy reference. Have an awesome week. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Ooh and I must just add, that I made a little video of this card to show it in movement, revealing the shutter scene. So if you'd like to see that, it's over on my Instagram Account as a reel. Which you can visit here. xoxo
