Whimsy Stamps ~ More Hexagon Fun ~ Part 3
Hey crafty friends, I'm back with the next creation in my 'Inspired by Hexagons' series. I've shared two already, so scroll back if you missed those. This third one builds on a previous card I shared, using smaller hexagons, but still that paper puzzled quilted background.
I love this cardstock shade of Audrey Blue from Simon Says Stamp, so made that my first colour again for this card, but I wanted to mix it up a bit and make a brighter card. So I've pulled out some Doll Pink and one of the newer cardstock colours from Simon Says Stamp ~ Honey. I just love this fresh bright joyful palette. I used the third smallest hexagon die in the set to cut the patchwork elements. This die is 2 inches across from the flat sides.
I coloured the sweet images from the Whimsy Stamps Crafting Fun Clear Stamp Set to tone with the cardstock colours, so I used YR24, Y38 and Y35 to bring that warm honey tone to the image. I used my BG colours for the blues, which toned really nicely. I used BG53, BG01, BG10 and BG000. There's not a lot of pink in the colouring, just a few accents on the paint tube, but I used R85, 83 and 81 for these accents. I didn't want to introduce other colours into the palette, but to stay with these three more split complimentary colour choices and I really like the combination. Yes I've been watching lots of Cathy Zielske tutorials. I love how she explains colour and design theory. If you're not familiar with her, do check out her video channel.
I coloured up the cute images and added a few white gel pen highlights to finish up. They're such cute images and these are only a few in this really fun set of crafting images. I stamped the greeting on the central hexagon with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink for a bold and fun sentiment. I cut a second panel from the Audrey Blue cardstock and matted the finished panel over this. I missed the edge a little on the run through I did with the main panel. I wanted to straighten up my lines, so trimmed the panel down a little with a stitched rectangle die from one of my Whimsy Die Sets. But it slipped a little during the diecutting process and knocked a little off the lower left side. I mounted it onto the second panel of Audrey Blue cardstock and this tidied the look of that up quite a bit, so I just went with it. I used the border die from the
There you have it a bright, colourful fun way to work with hexagons for a cool patchwork themed background and some cute stamps to go with it. I rather love this creation and I'm sure one of the little people in my life will love it too! I hope you're also enjoying this journey with me exploring using my Nested Hexagon Die Set from Whimsy Stamps. I have one more card to share from this series. I've had more ideas too, but I think I will revisit this series later in the year. So that's it from me today.
Whimsy has had two fun releases during June and the next one is lined up for July 15th so watch for that as that date is fast approaching! I'll be back soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
