Whimsy Stamps ~ Playing with Hexagons Part 2

Hey crafty friends, I'm back with the next make in my series of Hexagon cards. This time I've used one of the larger hexagons from the nested die set to create a patchwork background for this card.

I chose some analagous colours of cardstock for this creation. These are from the Simon Says Stamp cardstock range. I used Audrey Blue, Mint and Peacock Teal cardstocks to cut the hexagons for the base of the card. The hexagon die, was the fourth smallest in the set. It measures 2 5/8 inches. I used a wide double sided adhesive to cover the base panel and then began puzzle piecing the elements in place. Once the base layer was done, I took a stitched frame die from the Honeycomb Die Set to add the stitched border detail to the panel. This tidied up the edges nicely and gives it a cohesive look.

I took a piece of the Audrey Blue cardstock and cut the word die congratulations from it. I then ink blended the word die with Peacock Feathers and Uncharted Mariner Oxide Inks to achieve an ombré finish to the word die. I diecut the shadow layer for the word die with a lovely shimmery silver vellum. This gives it just enough separation from the base to showcase the word die well.

I diecut several extra layers of the word die from white cardstock and stacked these behind to give a bit of depth and dimension to the word die. This makes it feel substantial and gives it a little gravitas. I stacked two layers behind the decorated top layer and then glued this to the vellum. I then glued another white layer behind the vellum to lift the vellum up just a bit from the card base. This ensures the layers adhere without making a mess all over the vellum as it can be tricky with wet glue and vellum, most glues show through. Adhering the cardstock layers and then the vellum allows you to see where the glue will go and achieve a cleaner finish.

I used a couple of different die sets to achieve the sparkles I wanted for this card. The larger starbursts are from the Retro Mod Die Set and the smaller starbursts and diamonds are from the Good Vibes Die Set. They were just the finishing touches I needed for this card.

I mounted the decorated panel onto a white top folding A2 card base and have paired this card with an Audrey Blue A2 Envelope for posting. A fun way to use this hexagon nested die set I think. I'll be back with another hexagon creation very soon and hope you're enjoying the series so far.

Whimsy has had two fun releases during June and the next one is lined up for July 15th so watch for that! I'll be back soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
