Whimsy Stamps ~ Summerween Pop Up Box Card
Hey crafty friends, I'm back with my next Summerween creation and this one, was actually the first I made with this kit and it features two cuties from the sets having a lil' moonlight dip to avoid the sun! Which is probably just as well, because if you look under the front flap, the sunscreen fell in the ocean!
I coloured up our witchy ghoul with very pale skin, to explain why she might be hiding from the sun! Her cute ghostie pal, looks like the sun is not his favourite either, so I thought these two made such a cute moonlight swim pair. I created this box card very quickly and easily, it closes into a square, so you'd need a square envelope, though I made the flying bats reach outside the square, so this is a hand delivery creation, but if you ensured your extra elements still fit the square when folded flat, you could post this very easily.
Box cards are such a fun design, especially for kids! They love to see how they pop up and love exploring all the sides and facets of the design. I've made several over the years in different heights and widths. Kiddies love them and it really is a joy watching them explore the design. The pic above shows the left side of the design. I've used several gorgeous papers from Whimsy Stamps Slimline Paper Packs to create this fun night scene. I'm sure these two were chanting 'Carpe Noctem' during this moonlight swim!
I've turned the design to capture the right side for this shot above. The beautiful jellyfish paper is from the Under the Sea Slimline Paper Pack from Whimsy. The paper I've used for the base panels is from that same paper pack and I had fun depicting some different underwater scenes for this make. The base panels I opted for a paper which depicted the sea floor, so it would anchor the design. The top flaps, I've gone for a floaty jellyfish scene from the depths and love how these colours all worked together so well. I've added some acetate strips which pop out at an angle on either side of the box, because our ghouls needed their nocturnal friends out with them for their moonlight dip. I diecut some bats from the Haunted Graveyard Border Die Set. Enough to scatter a few on each acetate strip and one for the moon in the back.
I decorated the base panels of the box with a 'bookend' style of embellishment. On the left side, I add two little coloured shells to the left of the underwater scene patterned paper. For the central panel, I added a little fun interest with the SPF 1000 sunscreen that had fallen in the water and the hint of a seastar. On the right hand side, I completed the bookend embellishments, with some coral and a little shell on the right hand side of the design. These base panels aren't a feature of the design, but they are a cute little extra for those who like to explore all the panels. I will give this to one of my nieces and I know she'll enjoy looking at all the layers.
To decorate the back panel for this design, I took a moonlight scene from the Lost in Space Slimline Paper Pack. I hid the more alien element of this page further down in the design, where it wouldn't be obvious, letting the moon be the feature for this moonlight swimming duo. I used the palm tree stamp from the Summerween Scream Clear Stamp Set and added this over the moon as a silhouette. I added a little diecut bat too, to finish that panel. All the papers were trimmed so a tiny border of the kraft card base would be showing, so it framed them nicely. I did toy with making this in black, but liked the contrast the kraft card gave. The waves for my box card were diecut with the Kinetic Waves Die Set, a timeless and classic bit of nautical stash! I diecut several strips from cardstock I had sprayed some Distress Spray Stains on. I'd used Winter Frost and Phantom Mist to create the blue waves. I did four layers of waves, one at the very front where the shark is lurking as evidenced by his fin, one for each layer with the characters and then a fourth layer right at the back to complete the moonlit scene and give a sense of the water reaching the shore there where the palm tree is silhouetted against the moon. You cannot see this scene well front on, but it's clearly visible from the sides, so worth adding those extra details.

I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from.
