Whimsy Stamps ~ Let's Be Mermaids

Hey crafty friends, I had the sweetest day with one of my littlest nieces earlier last week and we had such fun colouring. She's amazing, only 4 years old and can draw inside the lines incredibly well! She has quite the eye for design and detail too. I took my tub of Promarkers over for a special colouring treat and she just loved that! She told me exactly how she wanted me to colour up this beautiful mermaid by the talented Crissy Armstrong, the colours, the details. So it was great fun. I wish I'd taken a photo of her mermaid, because honestly, hers was utterly fabulous! I've asked my sis to send me one. So will update when that comes through.

With a mermaid as delish as this, you quite honestly, don't need a lot else, apart from sparkle of course, so there's lashings of that on this make! I pulled out my Lindy's powdered paint in blue and green and had fun creating this shimmery watery background. I used some fun slimline wavy dies from Whimsy to create the wave patterns and layered up several layers to create the base for this card. I alternated between a wavy pattern and a pattern with peaks. I've bent forward the peaks and waves to create a little interest and dimension on the card.

I coloured the mermaid in the colours chosen by my sweet niece, which blend a little into the sea, but great camouflage don't you think?! Perhaps a purple tail would have been a better option, but as I'm a fan of green, I absolutely love it, great choice by my niece. She wanted her hair to look like Ariel, so of course I had to pull out the Promarker reds I recall using for Auburn hair in the past, Firebrick, Burnt Orange, Amber and Burnt Umber if I recall correctly. Some of my definition got a bit lost, I'm out of practice with my Promarkers, I needed to leave more 'lights' than I did. But I think it's still pretty.

I added a sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps Let's Be Mermaids Clear Stamp Set. I stamped it on vellum with a mix of gold and copper embossing powder, for a bit of random fun. I was in a playful mood for this make. I pulled out my long neglected Xyron Sticker Maker to add glue to the vellum, so it wouldn't be visible, which worked a real treat. I have no idea why I don't use this more often!

Thanks for popping in to visit today, I hope you enjoyed seeing this sparkly nautical creation today. While I've been writing my post, my sis snapped a pic of my sweet nieces version, which is currently up on their fridge. So here as promised is her sweet picture.

I'll be back with another creation before we run out of August, as I've one final card to share from this months makes and then you know it, we'll be into September and all the Autumn and Halloween makes. I love creating for Halloween and have a fun decor idea I want to try, so watch this space!

As it's almost the end of the month, it means our challenge at Whimsy in our Facebook Group will be wrapping up soon and as I said we're heading into one of the favourite seasons for a lot of the Whimsy crew, our Fall and Halloween season. I LOVE the 'too cute to spook' Halloween stamps from Whimsy and they released their first Halloween stamps for the season on August 20th and seriously they do not disappoint! It's going to be a really fun Fall and Halloween Season this year at Whimsy! See you again really soon xoxo

Beautiful sparkly card Wends, such a sweet mermaid - Of COURSE she had to be coloured as Ariel!
Your little niece did amazingly well, beautiful colouring! . My granddaughters loved colouring with the promarkers when were small, they have their own now and I think the novelty has worn off...covetous eyes linger on my carefully guarded Copics!
