Whimsy Stamps ~ Summer Gnome Fun
Hey crafty friends, happy August! Can you believe it?! This year is speeding up for me, I've so much to do before the holiday season arrives, eek! But first, I have been enjoying all the Summer fun makes out there in the blogosphere, because it's been wet and cold here, so I've been longing for some Summer sun. Today was clear at least, but chilly! So I've been seeking the sunshine through my crafting this week and really enjoyed creating this fun scene I'm sharing with you today.
I had such fun creating this cute beach scene. I started with a page of watercolour paper that I had given a watercolour wash in a lovely bright blue with one of my Karin Markers and a water pen. Nothing complex, I just scribbled across the top and then drew the colour down with my water pen. I just love the fade towards the bottom and the bright intense colour at the top, it just resonated for this summer sky for me. Next I diecut the fabulous Whimsy Stamps Build-An-Island palm trees and island from white cardstock, in this case, I used Bristol Smooth Cardstock to ink blend this island scene. I kept it pretty easy, using Pumice Stone Distress Oxide for the sandy base, Walnut Stain for the trunks and a mix of Rustic Wilderness and Mowed Lawn for the Leafy Tree Tops. I splattered the whole panel with water after for a bit of texture and interest and then masked the trees and splattered some Walnut Stain over the sand for some darker sandy texture. I added the island to the base with foam for a bit of dimension, then added my wee gnome that was coloured with Copic Markers on foam for a bit of further dimension.
I had fun colouring this cutie from the Gnomes At The Beach Clear Stamp Set. I always love colouring Crissy Armstrong's Images, I find them super cute and so much joy to colour. I went for a fun joyful mix of colours for this make. I love orange and think it adds a super cute pop of summer colour to this make. I used warm greys to colour the gnomes beard and gave his nose and the tops of his feet a nice bit of sunkissed pink glow for that sunbaked look. It's not safe to sit out in the sun long here in New Zealand, our sun is too harsh and burn times are very short, but this made me think of our English summers, which after long cold winters, it was such a joy to be out in the sunshine!
Thanks for popping in to visit today, I hope you enjoyed seeing this cute creation and I will be back soon with another fun make with my Whimsy Treasures. In the meantime, be sure to stop by the store to check out the latest release, which is full of fun Bohemian Gypsy vibes. As usual, my wishlist has just bumped up a bunch!
