Whimsy Stamps ~ The Witch Queen of New Orleans
Hey crafty friends, I'm finally finding a minute to blog my recently shared card. I posted this on Instagram as a reel, because I had such trouble getting a decent picture of this dimensional creation. Whimsy recently had a super fun release that included two elements I used on this card. The fantastic Enchanted Forest Die and the Enchanting Word Die Set.
I coloured up this awesome witch character by Crissy Armstrong as Marie Laveau, the Witch Queen of New Orleans. Inspired of course by the song of the same name, by Redbone. The Enchanted Forest Die made me think it could be a swampy bayou in New Orleans, where Marie Laveau may have practiced her voodoo medicine. She was apparently a healer and midwife, but also a Voodoo Witch Queen, of some repute. This kind of stuff freaks me out, but I loved the song by Redbone, so this creation was heavily inspired by that.
I used glow in the dark embossing powder from Ranger on the sentiment and on the moon that I tucked in the back layer of this dimensional box card. It's so cool when you turn out the light because the moon glows through the trees! I used two layers of the Enchanted Forest Tree Die, the first just in black cardstock which sits behind the front layer of trees, but forward from the very back of the card design, which has some really fun bokeh paper from the aptly named BOOkeh paper pack. That back layer is where I added my glow in the dark moon. The moon was cut from the same die as I used for the Jack Skellington inspired make. The front layer of trees, I cut from white cardstock that I had sprayed with a mix of Fallen Acorn and Specimen Mica Distress Spray Stains. The sparkle is so gorgeous in the right light and the darker colours really did give this moody swampy feel I was after.
I added a wolf into the scene baying at the moon. I added a little glitter pen to his chest so he shows up better when the light catches it. I also tucked a couple of skulls down by Marie, in lieu of some shrunken heads, to reference her Voodoo Queen status. The lovely glittery paper that frames the box card I cut from Black Brushed Metal Paper cut with 3in1 Mitered Frames Die from Whimsy. The box card design with based off the frame, I built the rest of the design around it. So the dimensions would fit and work with it. The Enchanted Forest Die was a good fit and I cut the back to match. The sides I cut a 4 inch square piece of cardstock and scored it to create little tabs, which I could adhere the forest panels to. It can be folded flat for posting, but does require a custom made longer envelope.
This release is another super fun one full of Halloween crafty goodness, but also we had the first set of our Christmas releases too! So we're heading in that direction fast now. After Halloween, it'll be all about the Christmas makes for me, as I've quite a bit of catching up to do! Happily though, there's still a bit of time before Halloween, because I've oodles of makes yet to share with you and will be back soon with another. Until then, I wish you a wonderful weekend and happy crafty days. Hugs, Wends xoxo
