Whimsy Stamps ~ Memorial Day

Hey crafty pals, I'm popping in with a Memorial Day creation today. We recently celebrated ANZAC Day here in New Zealand and I shared a lovely day with my mummy and one of my sisters honouring Mum's dad who died in service when she was only a few weeks old. So it's fitting especially with wars still waging around the world, to remember those who have served and given their lives in service. If you'd like to read a little more about my Grandpa and his journey of service, I shared a post with some photos previously here. I created a CAS card with several Whimsy Stamps sets. CAS doesn't always mean quick! A lot of thought goes into the design and getting it balanced etc. I went through several iterations before settling on this design. I had hoped to make several and had stamped a really cool camouflage background to use, but in the end, this was the design that worked best. I'll keep that camo' background for a later make.

It's late and my lighting isn't fabulous, so I've only one shot to share, but I think it captures it well enough. I used a very cool Distressed Background and Inksplats Stamp Set from Whimsy to create the mud splashes and to stamp the wire mesh. I felt the symbolism of those worked so well. The diecut soldiers are popped up on foam dots for a bit of dimension and I added a sentiment from the Military Family Stamp Set. The sentiment of gratitude resonated perfectly for me. I used a Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher Stapler to add some tiny staples in the bottom left and top right to complete the design. I attached the white panel to a Gina K Heavyweight Cardstock, the same cardstock I diecut the soldiers from.

I hope you saw that Whimsy was having a fabulous sale this weekend. It's wrapping up very soon, there's still a little time left, so do check it out. Banner above will link you straight through to the store and the discounts are automatically applied at checkout to qualifying items, no code needed. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure, in the meantime, I wish you a wonderful week and happy crafty adventures, Wends xoxo

(If you like any of the elements I've created with, I've added thumbnails to make your shopping easier. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever, though more importantly it helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
