Lili of the Valley ~ Wild About You
Hey crafty friends, I'm popping in today with a super adorable card using one of the latest releases from Lili of the Valley and one of the ink swatching backgrounds I made back when I got my new colour combinations of the Kaleidacolor inks around Christmas time. New Zealand Craft Store The Ribbon Rose had a fabulous sale on these, they were more than half price! So of course I convinced myself I needed a few extra colours! I started off by swatching and stamping these to test the colours. I made the swatches larger intentionally to use on a project. There's no sense wasting that process, so I've used one of the colour swiped backgrounds today, which I immediately thought of a Savannah scene when I saw it swatched out. You can see my panels from this process here in the IG reel I shared at the time.
I swatched quite a large area with this ink pad, it was a little too short in the end to create the 5x7 card I've made here though, so I brought the stamp pad back in and added a little more of the green across the bottom, which filled in the white space I hadn't inked and added a little texture to the ground in the design. I love how this background turned out and it needed nothing more than mounting on a black card base showing a narrow frame of the black, to complete the background. I picked up a beautiful pack of Sizzix Cardstock the other day from their Opulent Cardstock range. It has such a beautiful selection of specialty cardstocks and I used a gorgeous dark graphite cardstock with a beautiful shimmer as the base and frame of this design.
When my kiddos were small, they loved the animated movies from the Madagascar Series of films. Alex the lion, Marty the zebra and Gloria the hippo, were all voiced so brilliantly by their respective actors. So I had these characters in mind when creating this fun Savannah themed card. I sat Alex up on some rocks which I cut freehand from some cardstock I had left over from a previous creation. You may recall that previously shared post here. That post will give you the paper and ink details for those rocks if you like the look and want to know what I used and the process.
Marty and Gloria here are such a hilarious pair in the films. I added some shading under Marty to ground him in the Savannah grass and I used brown Copic Markers to add a muddy puddle under Gloria, because of course as a semi-aquatic mammal she would be in a muddy lake or swamp keeping cool. I didn't go overboard trying to create their environs in this make, I just gave a little hint to them, keeping the scene rather CAS and pared back. But how cute are they? Lili of the Valley have some really cute releases out this month!

(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own. If you use my Whimsy Stamps links and it's your first time shopping with my links, you'll be offered a 10% discount, which is a cool treat. So my links cost you nothing, but may also save you a few pennies. This is a 'one time' benefit, great if planning a bigger purchase.)
