Whimsy Stamps ~ Yeti for Love

Hey crafty friends, I pulled out this adorable stamp set to create with for Valentine's Day, but only got to the colouring them up stage. I just couldn't settle on a design I liked until a new bit of stash arrived in March. It was easy then, to bring together my ideas and complete these super cute cards. Do you ever have times like that, half the mojo is there, but you just can 'finish' the design. I have way too many 'half done' projects to count, but I was glad to bring these ones together finally.

My secret ingredient for these two cards coming together so easily, was the fabulous new Floating Hearts Coverplate Die from Whimsy Stamps. Such gorgeous texture and detailing. It gives a lovely punched design of floating hearts as its name suggests, all over the front of an A2 card. I diecut this panel with the funky Mix and Match Marquee Die Set, which gave a really fun and quirky window shape for my shaker card. I popped up this shaker with some new strips Whimsy got in stock recently that are perfect for shaker creations. They've a nice deep loft and come in a wider and narrower strip, perfect for edges of shaker window designs. I'm finding them quick and easy to use for shaker makes. I sprayed the red cardstock before embossing it with the coverplate die and cutting the window out of it, with a lovely sheer shimmer spritz from Tsukineko called Frost. It just adds an interesting shimmer and sheen across the paper and looks really lovely in person. I used the coverplate on both the white and red panels of cardstock and did my best to line them up so the pattern would be seemless. Best laid plans of mice and men, it's not perfect, but pretty good! I finished this card with a wrap and twist of some pretty iridescent twine I picked up from Simon Says Stamp and with a sentiment from Whimsy's 'Grinch' Quick Card Fronts. I cut off the Grinch word at the end and think it works perfectly!

I opted for a 'no lines' colouring technique again for this sweet yeti, I've been trying this more lately. I've added some details after the colouring with a Steadtler fineliner, to add back the details on his face etc. I chose a toning fineliner, so it would still retain that lovely 'no lines' feel. I'm getting a little braver and do really like how this and the image for the second card I'll share, look with this technique.

For those of you who like to know the Copic Colours I used for this cutie, they are E57, 55, 53, 51 and 50 plus the brown fineliner. The reds I used where an interesting combination, I actually used those newer more rusty reds for this combo, which are actually E colours, E09, 08 and 07 and R59 for the darkest base red. I really love how those worked together for a really deep rusty red.

My second card with this adorable Yeti Stamp Set, uses a much smaller image and I deliberated for a while how to best use it, then remembered I had the cool Happy Birthday Coverplate from Whimsy, so cut that from red cardstock and added the white background which I ran through with the floating hearts coverplate to add some texture and interest to the background. I added the image with a few foam circles for dimension. It's my birthday today and I have a crafty friend, whose birthday is right after mine, so I finished that card up and popped it in the post with her birthday parcel. Hopefully it arrives soon.

I went for a similar but slightly different combination of Copic Marker colours for this cutie. I used E37,35,33,31 and E30 plus the brown fineliner. You can see in the image above, the face details before I've added back in the darker fineliner details. It really does make a difference to the finished piece, to add back those details. I used a blue glitter brush pen from Scrapbook.com to add the blue background in the heart frame. So there's a lovely subtle shimmer around him.

So those are the two cute cards I made using the images I had wanted to create Valentine's cards with, but when is it not appropriate to spread a little love and snail mail joy?! So these designs will find homes Valentine's themed or not! Thanks for popping in to visit today friends, I hope you've enjoyed seeing how I created these cuties. They were fun to make!

I do use affiliate links where possible and occasionally am paid a small commission. I do not earn affiliate sales from my Whimsy links. This is just for tracking data. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
