Whimsy Stamps ~ Hiss Off Cat
Hey crafty friends, I'm back with another Halloween creation and I've had a pretty fun adventure with this one. I've been playing with my Mica Spray Stains and Distress Spray Stains in my splatter box and after a fun session the other day, I noticed there was an awful lot of mica and spray stain colour on the paper towel I had lining the box. It had a really pretty array of colours, quite autumnal, so I found myself wondering what it would look like to use the paper towel a bit like a gel plate? I wet the paper towel and lifted the beautiful colours of the remaining mica and stain onto some watercolour paper. There was so much colour, I was able to get several pulls of colour from the one paper towel before having to bin it.
I wet one side and took pulls from that side, then turned the paper towel and did the same on the reverse. This resulted in two quite different results on the watercolour paper. One side was highly iridescent with mica and the reverse side gained a colour rich but not much mica shimmer. So two quite different looks from the same session. I was able to get several really pretty panels, which would be lovely as autumnal backgrounds, but also would be perfect for diecutting elements from.
The panel I've used for this make, was from one of the pulls which didn't have any mica. But it resulted in a really cool grungy looking panel and I added some black soot Distress Oxide Ink around the outside to really grunge it up. I loved the colours in the panel and chose a lovely rich red cardstock to matt the panel. I used Spellbinders Merlot for the red matt and then I added another matt in a gorgeous black brushed metallic cardstock from the Spellbinders Onyx Assorted Treasured Cardstock Pack. This pack has a gorgeous assortment of specialty black cardstocks and there are several other colourways available.
I really didn't want to add anything extra to this creation. After stamping the silhouette images in VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink, I felt the overall effect was striking and needed nothing more than the lovely cardstock matts. So I didn't add any bling. But I did add some Shimmer Marker detail to the eyes of the cat and also to the eyes and mouths of the pumpkins. More details of this crafty adventure and a look at some of the panels created with the mica and stain pulls are shown in a video step through my process.

Thanks for visiting today. I'd love to know what you think of the idea of using the mica waste to create extra backgrounds. Have you ever done similar? I really enjoyed this process and I'm looking forward to having another go! I hope you've enjoyed this creative adventure and I look forward to sharing another one with you very soon. Until then, have a creative and happy week. Hugs, Wends xoxo
