Whimsy Stamps ~ Blog Hop Collaboration with Kit & Clowder
Hey crafty friends, Whimsy Stamps has a long association with the lovely Alyce from Kit & Clowder, did you know she used to be a Whimsy Girl?! She's joining us today for a wonderful collaborative Blog Hop, featuring Hand Coloured Designs. Our team have pulled out their markers and pencils and watercolours and are sharing their gorgeous designs all using hand coloured images. Alyce is joining us too, with a 'reprise' on a previous make she made many years ago now, with a lovely Sylvia Zet image from Whimsy Stamps. So we're excited to see that!
How about a cute hand-coloured trio of cards for my contribution?! I had such fun colouring up these lil' cuties and because Alyce is from Australia, I thought it would be cute to do some 'Finding Nemo' inspired cards.
For my first card, I hat-tipped the scene where Nemo's dad Marlin has been swimming with the jellies! I pulled the little fish to show Marlin from another Krista Heij Barber set, all the rest of the images are from one main set by Krista. Super cute images and I did my best to create the see-through jelly look and feel on the jellyfish. I've used a cool Wavy Nested Frames Die Set from Whimsy and some Distress Oxide inks to create the watery background. I ink blended the two panels with Distress Oxide Ink in Broken Chine and Tumbled Glass. I splattering them with water and a couple of different splatter mediums (I'll list everything in the thumbnails below), I diecut two panels with differing sizes of die from the Wavy Nested Frames Die Set. I layered them so that the layer underneath the top one, sat at a different angle than they actually come nested. I think this adds a bit of interest and looks a little more organic. I popped the top layer up on thin foam for a bit of added dimension. I finished this card by stamping the 'Just Keep Swimming' sentiment from the Mermaid Moments Sentiments Clear Stamp Set directly on the inked panel. I often prefer to do this, rather than add a sentiment strip. It embeds it in the design a little more cohesively.
This card here is all about Squirt, coming off his ride of the EAC (East Australian Current) which I used a super cool Whimsy Vortex die to create the EAC. I think it came out awesome and I'm really pleased with it. I used a gorgeous background stamp from Whimsy to create the swirly background called Curly Q's. Such a cool and versatile background stamp. I coloured up lil' Squirt with Copic Markers and popped him up on low loft foam at the front and higher loft foam at the back to look as though he was really flying through the water! I finished the design with a hand-cut sentiment bubble (I couldn't find my dies, Murphy's Law!) then stamped half of a sentiment strip to just get the word 'dude', which is what Squirt and his dad say back and forth to each other in excitement. This came from another Whimsy Stamp Set called Disco Dude Dudley. I masked off the disco and just stamped 'dude', perfect!
My final creation for this hop is this sweet card using the offcut of my 6x6 background stamp. I used it to anchor the design of this card and then piled up a few nautical themed Whimsy die elements on top. I added a few in white, pink and shimmer splattered white cardstocks, then added the sweet lil' seastars on top which were coloured with Copic Markers. I finished the design with a sentiment from the Mermaid Moments Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. I stamped the sentiment with VersaFine Clair Bluebell Ink, which had a lovely deep but brighter toning blue that was perfect to complete this card. This was only my last card, because I ran out of time to create more! I have three extra lil' cuties coloured up waiting for a card to call home and hope to get to those soon.
There are some fantastic prizes up on offer for this Hop. We have a $50 Gift Certificate from Whimsy Stamps and Alyce has offered another $50 Gift Certificate to Kit and Clowder, plus five $10 Gift Certificates to Kit & Clowder, so that's seven chances to win! Feel free to let a crafty friend know if you think they will be interested!

This hop will run from April 26th to May 4th. The winner's will be announced on or soon after May 7th on Whimsyās IG account. I hope you'll come join us if you're able. It's always a lot of fun and very inspiring seeing everyone's take on the theme. I resisted getting Instagram for the longest time, but this was the reason I caved, I wanted to join in and to enjoy the hops, it does seem to be 'the place' hops happen these days. So if you're on the fence about joining and want my two cents worth, I think it's worth it and I've really enjoyed using this platform. It doesn't replace my blog and never will, but I like having it and find it an easy and quick way to visit friends creations. So that's my thoughts on it. Hope to see you in the hop comments! Hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
