Sweet Stampin' and Whimsy Stamps ~ Inspired by a Book/Song/Film
Hey crafty friends, I've made this cool card featuring a couple of fantastic sets from Whimsy Stamps which fit perfectly our theme at Sweet Stampin' for this challenge. The Sleepy Hollow and Headless Horseman Stamp Sets, could not have worked better, for the idea I had in mind for this challenge. We are having an 'Inspired by a Book/Song/Film' challenge and I'm sharing this card as the first of two cards for this challenge. The other card I shared earlier in the week, which you can find here and is based on the Widow of the Web from the movie Krull. Today's post however, is based on the Sleepy Hollow movie and the Headless Horseman character.
My starting point for this creation was the movie poster from Sleepy Hollow. I just love the vibe in this poster and I took the elements used in the poster, the headless horseman against the moon with the spooky tree and the titles, and built my scene around it. Whimsy Stamps happily has those two stamp sets that are beyond perfect for Sleepy Hollow fans! So I combined the two in my creation.
I had another go at Stacy Hutchinson's Spooky Moon inky background for this design. I absolutely love this technique. It always comes out differently, every single time, but always looks absolutely fabulous. She is the first to use this technique that I'm aware of and lots of folks in crafty circles credit her for this. Although I did see Stacy's original post using this technique, which I've linked above as the Spooky Moon Inky Background, it was actually watching Amy Rysavy sharing her inky process, that really inspired me to try it! You can check out one of her Halloween videos from this year where she shows this process. But some of my favourites are from previous years, which you can check out here, here, here and here. I used Distress Spray Stains in Black Soot, Uncharted Mariner and Villainous Potion for my creation with a Distress Sprayer and water to get the inks moving a little too.
I used the gorgeous Onyx Stardream cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse as the base panel for this card, but wanted a little texture and interest, so added a Black Cobweb Tulle Mesh behind the image panel which I picked up at a local haberdashery. It just adds a fun bit of texture I think. I mounted the image panel on foam and then added some wet glue so the panel could adhere through the mesh to the cardstock below. I placed a heavy acrylic block over it while it dried to get really good adherence through the layers.
In the movie poster the Sleepy Hollow title is in red, but I didn't have any red embossing powder in my stash that would work for this look, so I grabbed instead some copper coloured embossing powder, which I think came out quite nicely for the title. I did the first sentiment in white. The copper looks almost red in certain lights but has a lovely shine and shimmer when the light catches it.
I've used VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink to stamp the Headless Horseman and I also used it to stencil the tree with the fabulous Halloween Trees and Grasses Stencil from Whimsy. I have a designated Black Blending brush I use just for this ink, as it's a pigment ink. I used my Black Kuretake Fudibeyori Brush Marker Pen to add a little grounding detail under the headless horseman and blended out a little with what was left on my VersaFine Nocturne Blending Brush. If you scroll back up to the pic with the Distress Sprays you'll see what I mean about 'grounding' the image.
Thanks for visiting today friends, I hope you've enjoyed seeing this creation. If you're intrigued by the challenge theme, be sure to go visit the challenge for more ideas from my incredibly talented teamies and in case you missed it, my earlier post which was also inspired by this theme, you can find here. I hope you'll come and join in our fun at Sweet Stampin' and if you'd like to check out the cool elements I used in this design, they're linked in the thumbnails below.
The lovely cardstock I used from Cardstock Warehouse is on special right now with a coupon code. Details in the banner above. The Halloweeners Team I design with have been using their gorgeous cardstocks shown in our September and October makes and I wish it was easier to get them here in New Zealand, because they are such a gorgeous quality! Fortunately I can get some of their brand through Amazon occasionally if I keep my eyes open!
I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, I wish you a fabulous week and wish you your own happy crafty adventures too. Hugs, Wends xoxo

I do use affiliate links where possible, and so appreciate if you use these when shopping. They cost you no extra whatsoever. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
