Whimsy Stamps ~ The Whole of the Moon

Hey crafty friends, I have another quick Halloween make to share with you and it's using a beautiful alcohol ink panel I've been waiting for the right card to combine it with! I so love how this panel turned out and really wanted to make something special with it! I used black alcohol ink to create this and some neutral inks too. I love the way it turned out with these awesome creepy mouldy whirls. It just had a magical feel about it and needed a magical scene to go with it! Enter the witch.

I just love these witch silhouettes that Whimsy released last year. They are magical and so lovely! I have a soft spot for witches, not the wart nosed spell casting ones, but the wise women, the herbalists, the sages, that were misunderstood through time, who had good hearts and wanted to heal with their herbs and poultices. I'm a trained aromatherapist and love mixing my little potions and healing concoctions, so I love the sweet imagery Whimsy has for witches. Something of them resonates with my healers soul. I've used several of these beautiful images in previous creations which you can see here, here, here, here and here and almost everytime, I've wanted to rest something in her hand which was magical. But as I was diecutting this scene, I'd diecut a highlight layer with the lovely Stardream Quartz cardstock and as part of that cutting process a little white moon was left over. I knew straight away this would be the focal point of the card, which I named 'Whole of the Moon'. Do you know the song? You can look it up, it's by the Waterboys and it was running through my head while I was creating this piece.

If you watched my video of the Cornfield Scarecrow, you might recognise the Halloween Sentiment from the Halloween Bitty Borders Stamp Set. You can see that post here. I used the practice embossing and fussy cut it to add the Halloween sentiment to this card. I used the gold embossed side for this make, to work with the goldy mustard tones in this eerie alcohol ink background. The sentiment was stamped on the lovely Stardream Onyx Black Cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse. I cut the black layer of the witch with the Foundation Blacktop Cardstock but I cut a highlight layer from the lovely Stardream Quartz. I've not cut my die sections apart, so when I diecut the witch, this little moon also was cut from the Quartz Cardstock and I straight away knew this was what she should be holding in her hand.

The background panel was made with Ranger Alcohol Inks. I used Yupo paper and added Pitch Black alcohol ink, which I knew from watching Tim Holtz using it, that it can separate and get these amazing ring effects. So I just played, with the black and then some neutral colours too. I used Smudge, Latte and Mushroom as the extra colours with the Pitch Black as the starting point. I could not love how this turned out more. It has such an eerie, petrie dish thing going on! Perfect for a Halloween creation. I had a beautiful slightly larger than A2 Ivory coloured card and envelope set, which was perfectly sized for this panel. I cut a matt of the beautiful Amethyst Cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse to pick up on some of those purply hues that separated out from the black. It's just a little bead of colour around the edge, but I think it toned so nicely and finishes the card perfectly. I hope you love this card as much as I do. I'm sending it to one of our lovely Halloweeners as a thank you card. So more importantly, I hope they will love it! I cannot believe our Halloween season has come to an end. It's been a wild ride and I've had the best time creating this season! Thank you for bearing with me, if Halloween is not your thing and if it is your thing, I hope you've enjoyed my creations!
