Hello crafty pals, I am excited to share with you today a new crafty adventure for me! I was invited recently by the lovely Yana Smakula to do some guest designing with some Spellbinders products. Well it was Yana asking, so of course I couldn't say no! More than that though, I'm delighted to be invited to design with Spellbinders, as I've had a long connection to Spellbinders products. They were the very first sets of nested dies I ever bought and I have a huge collection. I am excited to be working with these lovely products and I have been having such fun with several new sets from their Tinsel Time range which is being released today August 14th, so watch for them being shared on social media and let me know what you think?! I think this is a really sweet release.
This adorable die set is is called Dancin' Deer, from the Tinsel Time Collection from Spellbinders. It's such a cute and fun set, the little legs wiggle back and forth freely, such a fun kinetic element, perfect for kids cards, though kids of all ages will love this! I've popped up the body of the deer on foam, to ensure the legs can swing freely back and forth. I added the legs to the base over a white foam circle, ensuring it wasn't stuck down anywhere and could just swing freely, then the other pieces of the die set were added around this.
I used kraft cardstock to cut out the main elements of the deer and inked the edges of it with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink for a bit of shading. I cut some of the smaller elements like the antlers and feet from dark brown cardstock and the white elements I cut from a plain white cardstock inking the edges as I did with the kraft cardstock. The body of the little present I cut from a white cardstock with a linen texture. The red cardstock is a gorgeous Tonic Studios Mirror Card in a satin finish called Scarlet Organza. It has a silken finish with a lovely sheen which I think was so sweet for his red nose and I opted to use it for the candy cane and top of the wee present too.
The lovely embossed background is from a new 3D embossing folder released this month called Dimensional Diamonds. This is such a versatile and lovely embossing folder. I think it will work for so many themes. The texture is amazing and it embossed beautifully first pass through my machine. I experimented with spraying the back of the cardstock with water for some of my passes, which does work well, but honestly, my cardstock was a mid-weight cardstock and it had no issues embossing, there were no cracks or tears, with or without water spraying first.
I mounted the image onto a diecut panel from a neutral toned shimmery cardstock cut with the inside frame from the Fluted Tracery Die Set by
Becca Feeken from the Flourished Fretwork Collection by Spellbinders. This die is from my stash, not one of the items I was sent to create with, but I thought it worked well to set the scene for this cutie. The sweet sentiments are from the
Tinsel Town Sentiments Set and come with both the sentiment and matching shadow. I cut the No Peeking sentiment from gold cardstock and then the shadow from white. I used a double sided glue sheet to back the papers with before diecutting, so it would make the gluing of the elements much easier. A simple and perfect finish for this cute card I think. I paired this card with a nice gold envelope from my stash to finish.
