Sweet Stampin' ~ Spots & Dots

Woops!! I was meant to have this post live yesterday evening and life kinda took over a little. Too much time on the archery field!! It's Auckland Anniversary Weekend (which means Monday is a holiday for Aucklanders) so I've just got back from a lovely BBQ get together at one of my sisters. A lovely family gathering. It's always nice to get all the siblings, partners and kiddos together. There are seven of us siblings, so it's quite an undertaking! We were minus 2 today, but still a big crowd of us. The sun was shining, there was lots of good food, great beers and easy happy conversation. Fun for all. So it's nice to have this happy little card to share with you today. I recently sent this to my mummy who is staying with my baby sister in San Diego for a while.

Our new challenge went live yesterday at Sweet Stampin' and our theme this week is 'Spots & Dots'. I used a gorgeous image from A Day For Daisies for my card and layered the image up on some lovely spotty yellow paper. I used the same paper to diecut the swirly foliage. I used a wonky double stitched die from Lil' Inkers Designs called Silly Stitched Die Set to cut the image out. The corner diecut is from my Quickutz Photo Corner die. The flower was assembled from different layers of paper blooms that I coloured with my Promarkers to fit the colour scheme and fixed with a glittery brad.

I added a sentiment to the card after taking my initial photos outside. It was too late to take the shots outside again, so the above shots are indoors in darker lighting. For true colours, the shot below has the more natural tones, but sadly is missing the sentiment! I stamped it straight onto the image panel from a lovely Magnolia Sentiment Stamp from the 'Bon Voyage' release.

I hope you'll come on over and join in the fun with us at Sweet Stampin' for our 'Spots & Dots' challenge. We'd love to see what you're inspired to do. Just remember to include some stamping. I'll be back again soon with my next crafty adventure. Hope you're having a fabulous weekend. Hugs, Wends xoxo

I like to use 'daisy like' clusters of petal layers to create my own flowers for cards too, as these are flatter than the WOC flowers I love to use, so post more easily.

Update: I made Top 5 in the Passion For Promarkers challenge. Thank you so much ladies!

Southern Girls ~ Buttons or Brads

Hello again! I know, two posts in two days, unheard of!! I'm back again today to share my DT creation for Southern Girls and man I had some fun on this one! I have lassoed the sun and painted it onto this very sunshine yellow card. I have no idea what possessed me to go all out monochrome yellow! The whim just took me and I have to say I love the result.

The DT are working with Ppinky Dolls images for this challenge, so this wee sweetie is called Little Star and you can find her in the Ppinky Dolls Etsy Store. Isn't she a cutie with her wee bunny?! I have used some Wink of Stella on the clouds and stars and her little heart pockets too.

I added those wee heart pockets from the waste that was cut from the lovely Creative Expressions ~ Sue Wilson heart trim frame. They were the perfect size to add as pockets to her wee outfit. It took me right back to my childhood when I had a wee dress with heart shaped pockets. I loved that dress!

I used a cute die which is part of a set of three Quickutz 'Candy Hearts' to create this cute 'I heart You' sentiment. I added white card behind to make the lettering stand out. I handstitched this card (Kat it's all your fault!) it took me ages, but I'm obsessed with the lovely Kat's gorgeous stitching on her cards, and the whim just took me to try a cross stitch border on this card. If you click the second link on Kat's name, it even includes a wee tutorial on how she does her gorgeous stitching! I love how this card turned out, but I definitely need a 'whiter' thread, so that it shows up better. I think my cotton is too thin and not bright white enough. I added some more little hearts from the circle frames waste, just to finish that top corner.

Our theme for this challenge is 'Buttons or Brads' and I didn't have yellow heart brads, which would have worked for the top right corner, so I added a button and bow to finish the card. Voila! I hope you'll come join in the fun with us at Southern Girls this challenge and so look forward to what you come up with for our 'Retro Challenge' using 'Buttons or Brads'. Ppinky Dolls is one of two really awesome sponsors for this fortnights challenge, so come check it out! See you again soon. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Ribbon and/or Pearls

Hey there my lovely blog pals. I'm here today to share my DT creation for Fab 'n' Funky's latest challenge. Our lovely Jools is hosting the challenge this week and she's chosen the fabulous theme of 'Ribbon and/or Pearls'. One of my favourites! So I'm a happy bunny and so is this little cutie I got to colour up for this challenge from our lovely sponsors Digital Delights. This sweet image is called Love Bubbles Bunny. Coloured with my Promarkers.

I have used a Papermania paper called 'Home For Christmas' as the base for this creation. It's supposed to be a Christmas paper, but I think it works well for this creation too. I used my Berry Red Promarker to ink the doily as it wasn't a 'bright white', which didn't work with these papers, so red it had to be! I've used a wide grosgrain ribbon, which I added a white felt lace over and then tucked the diecut sentiment 'Precious' under on the right side. I used a Paper Smooches die to cut the 'Hello' sentiment and inked the edges slightly as in the plain white it was getting a little lost.

I didn't know at first what I was going to create with this cute image, it could have worked for a fun Valentine's creation, but my baby sister is due to have her second baby very soon and it occurred to me this could make a really cute 'welcome baby' card. So this will be winging it's way to San Diego in time for bubs arrival.

Well that's it from me today folks. I've been on the archery field again today with Georgie in the run up to her archery tournament in early Feb, so we've not had a Summer holiday, so much as a Summer Archery Boot Camp! Poor kiddo, she's knackered and to be fair, so am I! But it'll all be worth it and she's keeping in good spirits. Hard work, but she does love it.

Do get out your 'Ribbon and Pearls' and come and join our fun challenge this week at Fab 'n' Funky. I'd love to see what your take on the challenge is. Big hugs to you all, Wends xoxo

St: Lucia

Hey there, my lovely blog buddies. I'm popping in today very quickly to share a card I made for my Swedish pal to celebrate Saint Lucia. We don't celebrate this in New Zealand, but I have loved hearing over the years stories of their celebrations in Sweden from my pal and seeing the pics of her boys being involved in the school celebrations for this. I found an utterly perfect image a couple of years ago drawn by Elisabeth Bell and knew exactly who I wanted to colour this up for. I have this as a rubber stamp, but I believe she was recently released as a digital image by Elisabeth Bell. I love her images, they are so timeless and enchanting. They remain some of my favourite images to work with after all these years!

I was too late to creating it for Saint Lucia, but sent it with her Christmas parcel. I decided it needed something a little different to stage it well. So settled on making a tee-pee card design. I had some festive paper which worked really well together for this, so used three different papers from the same set. I love how this looked all made up. These were from a magazine cover gift. I can't recall which one, so if anyone knows, please feel free to share that with me.

I've seen tee-pee cards done with a plain base card and then layers of patterned paper on top, but my paper was a heavy enough weight to use as the base. So I cut three squares of paper the same size. I think mine were 5x5 inch, but you could do 6x6 for a slightly larger tee-pee base or 4x4 for a slightly smaller one. The size you choose will depend on the size of topper you want to add to it. I could have gone slightly larger again for this topper quite easily, but I liked this smaller size. There are a number of tutorials out there on how to create a tee-pee card, so I want do that here, but it's incredibly easy for the brilliant effect it creates, so don't be afraid to give it a go!

To 'fix' the edge that you want the card to open at, so it can be laid flat for posting, I used a little hand cut square of velcro. I've seen the fixing done with tiny magnets as well, both work very well. You can tell from the way the red paper pops up slightly over the white corner, that this was where my velcro fixer went. The magnets lay slightly flatter, but not majorly so.

Well that's my Christmas tee-pee card and I want to enter it into the Elisabeth Bell Challenge, so I'm off to link up to that now. Happy New Year hugs to you all, Wends xoxo

Sweet Stampin' ~ White on White

Well I'm getting the New Year off to a good crafty start with two posts in one week! It's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and we have a lovely one for you this week. We are bringing you a White on White challenge. I think that really IS a challenge considering we are a 'stamping' blog! But I managed to work in some white embossing and the cutest lil' white polar bear you ever did see! So I'm feeling like a nailed it right now! LOL.

I am guilty of having a huge stash of dies, gorgeous dies, that I very rarely use, so I took this opportunity to pull out two very neglected Memory Box dies. I just love that lil' moon and stars die and I think this is the first time I have ever used it! I must do so again soon, as it really is sweet. The wee village die I think was perfect for this make too, so that was good to pull it out again after a long break.

That cutie patootie wee polar bear is from Some Odd Girl. I LOVE the way she draws animals! This little guy is simply irresistible. So when I was thinking about a White on White creation that had to include stamping, this lil' guy sprung to mind immediately. I used my blue grey Promarkers to add a little shading and definition to this wee guy.

The sentiment is a Lili of the Valley sentiment from one of their Christmas sets called Christmas Wishes. This set has a really nice mix of sentiments and styles too. A really good all rounder for Christmas creations. I chose a sentiment which I thought worked well with this sweet bear. I think he's kinda dreamy, so it resonated for me. I embossed the sentiment straight onto the background paper with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder. I really would love to have made the sky a lovely inky blue and the sentiment would have stood out much better, but that wouldn't be white on white now would it?! So you just have to read the sentiment a little closer. In the right light, it's clearly visible.

This year Sweet Stampin' is becoming a Just For Fun Challenge. We have lost so many wonderful sponsors this past year with businesses closing down, so we have chosen to continue as a Just For Fun challenge, with entrants being recognised with a Top 3 pick each challenge. I have always thought this was the greatest honour for me personally so we're hoping our followers will continue to join in the challenges and enjoy stamping along with us. I'm off now to a late New Year party with some of our lovely pals tonight, so I'll catch you all again soon. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Update: I managed to take a better photo in the sunlight today, so here's an extra peek at this lil' cutie in better light.

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Birthday Using Numbers

Happy New Year my lovely blogging buddies! I tried my best to get around a few of you today, but it would seem Mr Blogger didn't want to play nice and I had to 'prove' I was human for lots of the comments, some of which came up with 404 errors, so if you didn't get a New Year message from me, please don't cry in your coffee, it's Mr Bloggers fault! LOL.

Right, now that's said, onto today's post. Whoop whoop, my first post of 2017! We have our second challenge of 2017 at Fab 'n Funky and our lovely hostess today is the fabulously talented Pat K. Totally go check out her blog, she's amazing! Pat has chosen the theme 'Birthday Using Numbers'. Always a good and popular theme, so I hope you'll come and join in the fun with us this challenge.

Our wonderful sponsor for this challenge is Bugaboo Stamps. These guys have such cute and fun images with more than a few cheeky sentiments for those who like to make those 'tongue in cheek' cards. I've used an image I had in my stash, as I needed to get this done before my sponsor image arrived. I think this wee cutie fits the bill really well though. It's called Turtle's Birthday. I coloured the image with Distress Inks and kept the card very CAS as I'm right in the middle of a big clean up in my crafting space, so not a lot of bench space down there! I've used a lovely shimmery card base and as those of you who follow my blog will know, I LOVE green, so this card is chock full of shades of green! There's blue there too, but so much green, it's hard to tell, hehe.

I hope you'll find time to come and join our second Fab 'n' Funky challenge for 2017. It's going to be a good year and we have plenty of fun in store for you and some great sponsors and challenge themes. We also will have a few new crew joining us for 2017 too, so be sure to watch for that announcement and come and say hi.

Wishing you all a fabulous New Year. 2017 HAS to be better than last year. So I have all my fingers and toes crossed that good energy, love, health and happiness follows you all this year. I think this card says it quite well with this sweet Penny Black Sentiment from her 'Sprinkles & Smiles' set ~ Bring On The Happy! Hugs, Wends xoxo
