Sweet Stampin' - One Layer or Lots of Layers

It's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and this week, we want to challenge you to either use only 'one layer' or to bring it on and 'layer up as much as possible'! So what's your preference, minimalist or fully loaded? I love them both! Oh the dilemma!! But actually, I've been poorly so I went for the 'easy option' and chose a single layer card. A single layer card, of course needs a 'fabulous image'!

I have loved these 'grown up' Anya's ever since I met them at The Greeting Farm and have a few now in my collection. This one I just love with her gorgeous strappy wedge heels and cutsie hair. She's called 'Anya Celebrates' and there are several others in this grown up Anya style too, just like her. She comes with two sentiment choices, I've used the one which fit my purpose best for this card.

I chose to do a really simple score line around the card to 'frame' the image and did the same around the sentiment to help it stand out. I'm not a doodler, I just can't do it with any degree of pizzazz, so I score. It works for me! I like the elegant understated finish it gives. The image was coloured with my Promarkers of course, and I've just 'grounded' it with a little grey under the feet. Voila, fini.

Our sponsor for this challenge is one of my all time favourite craft stores - Live & Love Crafts. I shop with Sandy whenever I'm after the most delicious shabby chic papers, gorgeous laces, and delicious shabby chic embellishments. Which is more often than I should! But who can resist all that gorgeous Maja and Pion Design in one place? I'm not great at the shabby chic style myself at all, but I so love seeing others who do this style so well and I LOVE all the embellishments and papers. I just use them 'my way'. So if you've never discovered the 'treasure trove' that is Live & Love Crafts, go and have a look, you won't regret it!

Come and join in our Sweet Stampin' challenge and show us your preferred style - one or lots of layers? Do pop in to the blog and see what my talented teamies have been up to, there's plenty to inspire you on the blog today! Thanks for popping in here and see you again soon. Hugs, Wends x

Fab 'n' Funky - Ribbon & Lace

Oh what an awful week I've had! I've been sick in bed for four days running with a 40 degree fever (that's 104 to the US crew) so I'm late with my DT post, but managed when my fever finally broke, to feel well enough to finish the card I'd started. So here is my Fab 'n' Funky DT creation for our challenge this week. It's my challenge to host and I chose the theme 'Ribbon & Lace'. I use these a lot on my cards, so I thought it would make a nice easy theme. So please pull out your lace & ribbon and come join in our challenge!

Our sponsor this week is Sassy Studio Designs who gave us some fabulous images to work with. I chose the lovely 'Maxi Skirt Momma' for mine. There are so many babies in my life right now. So this image really appealed as a gorgeous celebration of that special time of life.

Before I fell sick, I'd chosen some pretty paper and decided that I'd use one of my new dies that my lovely hubby bought me for Christmas. The paper is from a lovely Prima paper pad called Fairy Belle and my new die is a Spellbinders border die called A2 Curved Border One. Quite a mouthful, but a fabulous pack of gorgeous dies for pretty edging and I've been itching to try it out!

I used a printed ribbon for the sentiment and added another pretty organza bow and some lovely cotton lace to complete my 'Ribbon & Lace' component of my card. The image printed out much larger than I'd expected, so was quite large compared to my card base, I usually go for a little more space around the image, but working with what I had and considering how poorly I've been, I didn't mess around trying to reprint it.

Well that's it from me today. I've tried several times to complete this post over the past 24 hours. So I'll stop there. I'm back off to bed for a lay down. Thanks for stopping in and be sure to join in my 'Ribbon & Lace' challenge at Fab 'n' Funky. Hugs, Wends x

Sweet Stampin' - Inspired By A Song

Ooh it's the day of 'Love', I wonder if any of your fella's would choke if they heard that?! LOL. My hubby is awesome, awesomely committed to the 'Anti-Valentine' cause. He even wrote me a song about it. Yes, I am serious. You can check it out here. Well it's not every day a gal has a song written for her, so I'll overlook the Valentine dig! LOL.

So that leads me nicely into our new challenge at Sweet Stampin' as this week, we want to see you 'Inspired By A Song'. I love these challenges. It really makes me revisit some of my old favourite playlists! But for me, there is a little twist this time, as my song isn't a 'grown up' song, it's a kids song, actually a 'theme song'. But it really did inspire my creation, as this wee girlie I've made the card for is a HUGE Charlie and Lola fan and my kiddos are too. So while I was making this card, I was humming the theme tune and thinking of this sweet Charlie and Lola loving tot. What would you choose I wonder?

We're sponsored this challenge by the fabulous folks from Crafts U Love, so one lucky winner is in for a super treat! A great reason to get inking and join in our challenge.

The stamp I've used is utterly perfect for this card, as the wee poppet this card was for, was often dressed in the cutest lil' hooded jacket and a set of zebra striped ugg boots which I've done my best to emulate on this card. She attended my son's Playcentre last year and sadly is moving to a different part of New Zealand, so this card was made as a little farewell card from all of the Playcentre families. This cute image is called Mousey Mo from Saturated Canary. I've coloured her with my Promarkers.

The sentiment is from Inkadinkado's Cling range called Mother, Thanks Expressions. It's a 'going away card' so would have been slightly better if it said 'I'll Miss You', but I figured it was close enough to perfect. I really like this sentiment set. It came with three different ones and they're fabulous quality red rubber with green foam self cling backs.

PicMonkey Collage Deunan

I used a little MME clock icon as the only embellishment as I wanted to keep it pretty CAS, but thought this fitted the theme well as we were all feeling we didn't have enough time with this lovely family at the centre. The paper I've used is the gorgeous Harlequin page from the BoBunny Enchanted Collection. I inked the edges of all the papers with my lovely new Prima Dark Bark Fluid Chalk Ink by Ingvild Bolme. Love these lil' ink dispensers, so easy to hold and use when inking edges, no more dropping my distress ink pads face down onto my work space!

Thanks for popping in today, I hope you've enjoyed my CAS farewell card inspired by the Charlie & Lola theme song. If you want a joyful little tune to craft to, click on the 'song' link on the official CBeebies page I've linked. It's one of my kiddos favourite programmes from the UK. It doesn't screen here in New Zealand, so it was a sweet connection between my little boy and this wee poppet who lived overseas too until last year and loves the show.

Why don't you link up to our 'Inspired by a Song' challenge with your own crafty makes and what you've been listening to while creating. The Sweet Stampin' crew and I would love to see what you come up with. Go check out my awesome teamies creations too. You're sure to find inspiration there! See you again really soon. Hugs, Wends xxxx

Southern Girls - Things With Wings

It's time for a new challenge at Southern Girls and ooh we've a good challenge for you today! It's 'Things With Wings'. Now who doesn't love a bit of fairy magic, or winged animals? My Georgie has her birthday at the end of this month and she has a thing for Dragons, so I've made a card, her little brother can give her, for her 10th birthday. Double digits, she's very excited!

Our challenge is being sponsored this fortnight by Aurora Wings and Retail Girl. Two fabulous sponsors so there are two wonderful prizes up for grabs! The Design Team were given some gorgeous stamps to play with for this challenge, and I chose the very sweet Dragon Babies from Aurora Wings. These two are just the cutest and I thought would make a really sweet card from Zac to his big sis.

I've coloured the images with my Promarkers, but as I'm pants at doing texture, I've actually printed the image twice on a patterned paper before colouring it and then paper piecing the layers. Up close, the egg shells have a lovely curve to them. I didn't want to stray too far from the colours in the paper, so I've just added shading and depth here and there. The shells would have been good to have a little lighter, but I had to work with the shades in the paper, so this is how they ended up.

PicMonkey Collage Dragons2

I wanted to draw out the pink in the lovely backing paper, so went for a rich pink ribbon, but it was too wide to make a bow from (I did, but it swamped the card), so I opted for a triple bow using a narrow satin ribbon in matching tone. I used a LOTV sentiment stamped straight on the paper using my Smokey Plum ink, rather than black ink, as I think it would have been too stark.

I've gone for a very CAS layout, with a pretty plaid backing paper from Sugarplum Paperie for The Digital Press. The paper I used to print the dragons on was from the same set called 'A Day In The Life: Morning'. They have a fabulous promotion running at present, called 'Pennysavers' and this paper pack was in there, for only $1. Bargain!! If you like digital papers, you should really check them out, they've some lovely sets in their Pennysavers right now.

Here's my sweet boy, holding the card he'll give his big sis.

Pop on over to the Southern Girls Challenge blog to check out what my wonderful teamies have been up to. We have some new crew too! So be sure to visit their blogs and leave them some love. We're so glad to have all these talented ladies join our team. I'm excited to see their fabulous creations. I'm excited to see your take on the challenge too, so come join in!

Well, that's my post for today. I'll catch you again soon with my next crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends x

Fab 'n' Funky - Hearts & Flowers

I swear time speeds up each year! I can't believe it's already February, and yep, it's time for our next challenge at Fab 'n' Funky. The funky chicks have all been working hard on their DT posts, so head on over to the challenge blog to see what they've been up to. Our lovely Pat, has chosen the theme 'Hearts & Flowers' for this challenge and we're being sponsored by the lovely folks at Craft Classes Online.

I have so many people to make new baby cards for lately, so I worked this theme into a card for a lovely friend who recently had a baby boy. She's really fun loving, so I went for a cheeky sentiment in celebration of the happy event. I used the gorgeous pregnancy image called 'About to Pop' by Krista Smith of Saturated Canary. I just love her pregnancy images. I've more cards to make, so I'm sure I'll be using another of hers very soon. I've yet to have another go at my wee newborn book and my sis is due any day now, so I'd better get cracking! Here are some other 'New Mama' cards I've made using lovely images from Krista, here, here and here. She has an utterly gorgeous new pregnancy image out too, which I know I want to ink up soon. It's part of her Valentine's Bundle, you can check that out here.

Card: 6x6 Blank
Heart Pins: The Ribbon Girl
Inks: Promarkers & Distress Ink
Sentiment: ColorInk Digital Stamps
Papers: Magazine Freebie (details later)
Ribbon: Wide Cranberry Gingham - Stash

I have family coming to stay, so I've been in a tail spin preparing my house, I've still lots to do, so no time for long posts! Thanks for popping in today. I hope you've enjoyed your visit, do pop over to the Fab 'n' Funky Challenge blog to check out what my talented teamies have been up to too and come and join us for some 'Hearts & Flowers' fun. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Have an awesome day. Hugs, Wends x

I'm not big on the whole shiny gold craze going on in craft right now, understated and elegant is my preference, not loud and flashy. So definitely matte!

New Year Fun - My Crafty Year in Review... And A Challenge!

I'm swinging in here today to wish all my lovely crafty pals out there a blessed and wonderful New Year. May all your dreams, passions and desires be your reality in 2015! I'm looking forward to moving into this new year with the hope of new possibilities, experiences and adventures. I'm also looking forward to another year of crafty fun with you all. I wish you a year filled with all your heart desires. Hugs, Wends x

Fancy a little 'Top 12' Challenge?

I notice that several of my lovely blog buddies each year post their 'Top 5' favourite makes of the year. Which I think is both awesome and really challenging, how do you whittle down to a Top 5! So as I did last year, I'm going to show you my favourite 'Top 12'. One for each month of the year (not necessarily chosen from each month).

Just for a bit of fun though, (and because I've been meaning to post a blog candy for several months now), I've decided to turn this showcase of my Top 12 into a 'challenge' you all can enter. Just a 'one off'. For us all to be able to showcase our favourite 12 makes, one for each month of the year and for one lucky entrant, I'll do a random draw and you'll be the winner of the blog candy.

(There are a couple of things hidden in the back too)

So, if you're up for this little bit of fun. Enter the challenge by linking via the 'InLinkz' button below showcasing your favourite 12 makes from 2014. You'll need to write a blog post specifically for this, showcasing your 'Top 12' or you can link a post you've already done with your top picks of the past year. It doesn't strictly have to be 12, I just like that number. Please make sure you link to your blog entry, not just your blog. Please mention the 'Top 12' challenge in your post and if you are happy to, please post the 'blog candy' pic to your sidebar to tell others about the challenge. I look forward to coming to visit your blogs and seeing your gorgeous entries. Have fun!

My Top 12 of 2014

(In reverse order)

Ya'll know how much I LOVE Sugar Nellie.
This was my Swedish pals birthday card.

LOVED making this card, even if my Frantage looks like bird poop
on the lamp and birdhouse! LOL. I made this for my baby sis.

PicMonkey Collage2
This card was such fun to make and I LOVE this
Sylvia Zet image. Gutted she's had to close her digi store.

Yup, Sugar Nellie again. LOVE these fairies, goes without
saying, I have them ALL!! This make was for my
son's best buddy back in the UK.

Hands down, my favourite baby make this year. I LOVE
Lili of the Valley babies. They're the cutest.

Possibly my favourite make this year. The photo does no justice
to this card. The image is paper pieced and her wings are so glittery.
She looks ethereal coming off the page. I really have to
work on my lighting for photos this year!

This was a DT post for Fab 'n' Funky last year.
I really love how it came together. The papers are yum!
I developed a love for Art by Mi Ran stamps too!!

This was a Southern Girls DT post using a sweet
'All Dressed Up' stamp and my favourite 'Go Create' dies.
I just loved the sweet embossed clouds on this one.

A real contender for absolute fav'. I made this for my lovely Aunt and Uncle
who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary this past year. I used
my all time favourite papers for this. I LOVE Maja Design!

For one of my baby sisters, our eternal mermaid! I loved the shells
and the blooms on this card. It came together so much better
than I'd envisioned! Love the Hannah Lynn stamp!

More Sugar Nellie gorgeousness, with a super sweet image.
This was my first 'box card' creation, thanks to one of
my blog buddies Janine, who share a fab tute' and
using gorgeous 'Funky Hand' papers too.

I really loved making this Wedding Keepsake box, for my lovely friend,
who married another of our closest friends early last year.
I wanted this to be super special and I'm so
happy with how it turned out!

Oh my goodness, that was hard work getting it down to 12. There were so many more I've loved, especially ones I'd made for dear friends. But there you have it, my 'Top 12 of 2014'. Now it's your turn to enter your 'Top 12 of 2014' via the linky below. Thanks for joining in and good luck for the prize draw. The challenge will close on February 2nd and I'll draw the winner within the following week. Have fun ya'll. Hugs, Wends x

I'm linking my 'Top 12' to two of my fabulous blog buddies - the wonderful Debby's 'Top 5 of 2014' and my lovely blog buddy Mynnette Kitchen's Link Party. Come and join the fun!

Update: 5 Feb 2014
And the results are in! has done it's thing and the lucky winner is...

Mynette Kitchen! Congratulations hunny. I've sent you an email, so return your address details to me and I'll get your parcel in the post asap.

Thanks everyone who entered. I've a little tucked away for a new blog candy very soon. So watch this space! Hugs, Wends x
