Sugar Nellie ~ Challenge #138

Hey there my lovely crafty pals. I'm here with my next Sugar Nellie Challenge Design Team creation. Man, I'm still buzzing that I made the team! I just love these gorgeous stamps and it's such a fab collection of some of the nicest stamps available out there for our crafty pleasure. So I count myself very privileged to be designing for them. Okay, I'm done gushing! Onto todays crafty adventure. If you follow the Sugar Bowl Challenges, you'll know 'Anything Goes' (as long as it's with a Sugar Nellie image).

So I pulled out my beloved Sugar Nellies, had a rummage through and let the whim take me so to speak. I was inspired by my 11 year old Georgie, who has been writing her own songs lately (helps that you have the inspiration of a very talented musician daddy!). So when I came across this sweet image called Creativeness from the Scrapberry's range at Funky Kits, I knew I wanted to colour this wee lovely up. Georgie was my inspiration, but I stuck with the auburn hair as I think this wee girlie looks fab with that golden crown!

I used some Wink of Stella on the beads in her hair, tuning pegs on the guitar and the trim on her trouser legs. You can see some of this a wee bit better in the piccy below.

I had a lovely card shape pre-cut in kraft card, which I knew I wanted to use for this make, but when the paper I wanted to use didn't fit the bigger Go Kreate dies I was a little stuck, as there was too much kraft card showing and it frankly looked a little bare, so I had a rummage through my stash and found a lovely wider hessian wrap that my baby sister had sent from the US and I cut it to mat the designer papers and fill that awkward gap, who knew it would look so fab?! I love the way that turned out! Here it is photographed using my 'lightbox' hubby made me. It's been raining for weeks here, so the lighting is awful otherwise. I'm not sure we have the lighting perfect, but it's so much better than the natural light shots I've got lately. Yay for my clever hubby!

I had some plaited hessian ribbon in my stash, so I threw that on for good measure and I'm pretty chuffed with how that looks. I picked up a cute set of notes from the Apple Blossom die range recently and wanted to incorporate these into this creation. I really wanted a gorgeous sentiment to work with this image and found the perfect one over at Ginger's House.

The final touch was the sweet blooms, which are a mix of Wild Orchid Craft Daisy and Kort och Godt roses. The little wooden sticks I picked up on a walk home from school with my small boy, they had the cutest lil' gumtree nuts on them and were tiny enough that I could envision using them on a card. Love, love, LOVE how they look.

The pretty papers are from a My Mind's Eye set called ... (I'll come back to you with that info, have to hunt the pad down! LOL)

The prize up for grabs is always four gorgeous Sugar Nellie images, so if you love your Sugar Nellies, come and join in the fun and be in to win a bunch more! Karen has some really gorgeous new images in and more to come, so do stop by the shop and have a hunt through the 'New' listings. There are a lot of stamps on special in the store at the moment, so have a hunt through! Some of my favourite Sugar Nellie's are retiring and once they're gone, they're gone. So snap them up at a steal, while you can!

Giveaway Alert

If you've never had a Sugar Nellie stamp, then I have a treat for you. Anyone who comments on this post and remarks 'I Love Sugar Nellie'. I will put in the draw to win this gorgeous Sugar Nellie Rubber Stamp. I'll post it anywhere in the world, so don't be shy. I will draw the winner when this Sugar Nellie Challenge closes, so you have a month to enter. The stamp is one of my favourites from the Under The Sea collection by my favourite stamp artist Marina Fedotova named after her ~ Aqua Marina. Click through on the name to take you through to the Funky Kits website.

I'll see you all again soon with my next crafty adventure. In the meantime, soak up the sunshine, dance in the rain and be in to win this gorgeous rubber stamp! Big hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Christmas

Hey there my crafty pals. I hope you've all had good weeks, mine has been busy as usual, but has involved lots of cuddles with my poorly wee man. He's back at school today, though still not 100%. Fingers crossed he lasts the day. But I'm here to tell you about the new challenge kicking off over at Fab 'n' Funky today, so let me get to that. Our hostess this week is our lovely Chris and the theme is Christmas. We're helping you get ahead of the Christmas rush by having a Christmas challenge at the end of every month and the end of June has rolled around already, so we have reached our 'mid-year' Christmas challenge. Eeep, Christmas will be here again before you know it! So come and join us this challenge and let us help you get ready for Christmas.

We have the lovely folks at Bugaboo sponsoring our challenge this week, which couldn't be better, because they have some really sweet and fun Christmas images. The DT have been spoilt to bits with a sweet image to use for the challenge. I chose the very cute Christmas Moose Ornaments, which reminds me of the fabulous New Year celebration we spent with our Scandinavian pals in Sjobo, Sweden. But that's quite a long story, so suffice to say, it involved Moose! I think it'll be perfect to send to their boys this Christmas.

I decided I wanted to use some cute reindeer confetti I had to create a shaker card, so combined some gold snowflakes with the silver reindeer and some smaller gold stardust sequin confetti which was from SpiegelMom Scraps. I used a shaker card foam kit from Queen & Co to create the layers, but cut the circular frame from red cardstock using a Lil' Inkers Stitched Circle die.

The patterned paper is one I picked up last Christmas from a local store and is from the Rosie's Studio range. I thought the baubles worked well with the image and would you believe I coloured the image before picking out the paper? The colours were a fab match!

I've distressed the edges of the papers and the card base is slightly smaller than the patterned paper, so the distressed edge is the edge of the card. Not sure how that will go in an envelope, but we'll see. I used an earthy toned Washi Tape to trim the bottom edge, I doubled it up as it was too pale and showed the red through otherwise.

I've used elements from an MME set called Mistletoe Magic and the sentiment I used was from an Echo Park elements set from the Very Merry Christmas range. The image was coloured with my Promarkers, still my favourite 'go to' colouring medium. Isn't this wee moose a cutie?!

Well that's it from me for now. I hope you'll join us this week for our Christmas challenge. I was feeling particularly festive and even found myself singing 'Deck The Halls' when I was making this, wonder what could have caused that?! LOL. I'll be back really soon with my next crafty adventure, in the meantime, I wish you a fabulous week or what's left of it and do come and join in the festive fun with us at Fab 'n' Funky this week for our Christmas Challenge. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Sweet Stampin' ~ No Squares or Rectangles Allowed

A quick hello tonight as we are kicking off a new challenge at Sweet Stampin'. This week we want to see your shaped cards. No squares or rectangles please. Our fabulous sponsor this week is Freckled Fawn, so our lucky winner is in for a lovely treat. They have such gorgeous elements for scrapbooking and cardmaking. I'm a big fan of their woodchip elements

I apologise for the blurry pic above. I've tried to retake the shot three times and it looks clear until I upload it! So I've no idea what I've done wrong, but if you pop it up to the bigger size (just click on the pic) it seems to get clearer. So strange!! This sweet wee man is a Whimsy Stamp by Crissy Armstrong called 'Flower For You'. I've coloured the image with my Promarkers and then added the Wink of Stella accents.

I've had no luck with my photos for this post, I'll have to have a go again tomorrow. But for now, here's a wee shot of the sparkle from the Wink of Stella on the woodchip butterfly and the flowers. I added a touch to the edge of the yellow flower as well. I just love those tactile, soft, gorgeous white crocheted flowers. The woodchip butterfly and those gorgeous crocheted roses are from SpiegelMom Scraps. The butterfly is from the Cloud 9 Bloom Wood Veneers set. The yellow bloom is a cherry blossom from Wild Orchid Crafts. I just love their flowers.

We'd love to see what you'd come up with for this challenge. Shaped cards are so fun! I love all the fabulous shaped dies and templates available out there. The lovely flower shape that I've used here is a Go Kreate die from their XXL range. Why don't you pull out your fabby shapes and come join in the fun for our challenge this week. Remember the wonderful prize we have from Freckled Fawn, now that's a prize I'd LOVE to win!

I'm busy creating a wee baby album today for one of my bestie's whose wee babe just turned one and she's having a very gorgeous first birthday celebration for her tomorrow. I'm so excited, we have the cutest pressies for her! I need to get back to creating her sweet wee album though or it won't be ready in time! I'll see you again soon and I wish you a wonderful weekend. Hugs, Wends x

As You Like It: Favourite Die ~ I love stitched dies, I have a real thing for them. My favourites are Lil' Inkers, which I've used here in this creation. I also love the Go Kreate XXL dies. They have so many gorgeous shapes, my favourite is the frilly #10, but I've used one of their flower dies in this make. I just thought the image would suit this Go Kreate shape and I'm pleased I used it. :)

Update: I've had another go at piccy's today, it's still overcast (it is Winter after all here in NZ) and I just can't get a better shot of this card. I'm starting to think it's my camera! So I give in for now. Can't work it out. But I have had lots of trouble with PicMonkey not starting properly lately, so maybe there's a glitch in THAT matrix! LOL. Hope my next card will be easier to photograph!

One last try, LOL...

Top 3 Update: I made Top 3 on the I Love Promarkers Challenge. So thrilled and delighted to see my wee card showcased there, thank you ladies so much.

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Shaped Cards

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. It's the middle of the week, which means it's time for a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and we have such a lovely one for you this week. Our hostess this challenge is the lovely Ginny and she's chosen the theme 'Shaped Cards'. So don't be a square! Join us in creating your own shaped creation. There really are some beautiful card shapes out there now and some fabulous special fold cards. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with.

We have a wonderful sponsor for this challenge and all the DT had the joy of colouring these gorgeous images for our DT creations. I just LOVE the stamp I used. My daughter utterly loves wolves, as you'll know if you follow my blog. So when I saw their gorgeous She Wolf image, I had to use it! I loved the colours on their pre-coloured image so much, that I decided to work with that version for this creation.

Georgie has always loved dreamcatchers so I had the idea to create a 'faux' dreamcatcher card using this gorgeous She Wolf image. I just love the sweet features of the girl and that amazing wolf hat. My Georgie is rarely without her wolf hat, so this image is beyond perfect for her. Needless to say, there were whoops and yelps when she got home from school today for the big reveal. She was very excited.

I wanted to create the dream catcher from paper, rather than make a traditional hoop and thread style one, so I cut layers of card and used a doily to create the effect of the lacey threads. But then I decided to add thread to the layer behind the image. Which sadly does get covered up a bit, but I still think it's nice to have the stitching there. Below you can see some of my process, the finished stitching, the back of the circle showing the 'shortcuts' so I didn't use so much thread, the doily being stuck to the backing board to create some strength and give me somewhere to write Georgie's message. I added a loop of string at this stage, so that the dreamcatcher can be hung.

I meant to add beads to the threaded feathers and annoyingly forgot all about it until I was actually finished! I had even picked out some little blue beads that would have worked well with the image, so I'm kicking myself for that. But despite that omission, I still think the wee feathery threads came up well. I stitched all the little feathers onto white cotton which I knotted periodically to keep the feathers in place. I added the twine tassels to fill out the design a wee bit and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I hope you'll come and join us with your own 'Shaped Card' creation. I so look forward to what our entrants create for this challenge, it's always cool to see a different take on the theme. I hope you've all enjoyed seeing my wee dreamcatcher card and I'll be back again before long with another crafty adventure. Have a gorgeous week. Big hugs, Wends x (Woops, better show you the finished card! Here you go...)

Southern Girls ~ For The Kids

Hey there my lovely blogging buddies. I have two kiddos home poorly today, for the second time this week. Winter bugs have hit our shores here in New Zealand! Poor Georgie had no voice at all on Tuesday! So I'm a bit late posting my DT creation for Southern Girls this morning, but as they say, better late than never!

It's Team Lou's turn to post this week and we have a super fun challenge theme and two utterly fabulous sponsors. Our theme is 'The Kids Are Alright', which means, we want you to create something for a child. We love all your gorgeous papercrafts, be it a scrapbook layout, card, mixed media, as long as it's a papercraft, we'd love to see it. Our two amazing sponsors are Lacy Sunshine Stamps and Julia Spiri. What a treat for our lucky winners. Two truly fabulous stamp designers.

I had the great pleasure of working with a gorgeous image from Lacy Sunshine Stamps. Heather draws such enchanting characters and this lil' cutie 'Rory ~ Lil Red & Wolfie' really stole my heart. It possibly has something to do with having a 'wolf' crazy daughter, but who could resist the sweet lil' wolfie in this image?! Plus I have a soft spot for Little Red Riding Hood, I've always LOVED that cape!

I used my Promarkers to colour this sweet image and then added a touch of Wink of Stella to her blue shirt (because what little girl doesn't love a sparkly shirt?). I also added a touch of Wink of Stella to her cape buckle so it looks golden and there's a teeny touch on her hair baubles where the light would fall, but you can't see this in the pics. Wink of Stella is gorgeous in reality, but doesn't photograph well unless you catch it in exactly the right light! Trust me I tried!!

I used a paper from Pretty Grafik Designs which is part of a set called 'Little Red'. I wanted to use the forest paper as well, but as I was creating the card, I found a strip of gingham on my table and well, you know how much I LOVE red gingham so that worked it's way into the design and my idea for creating a forest background with grass trim took a backseat. I kinda like how it turned out though!

I also love that when I was sharing a cider with my brother the other night, I saw the paw print on the bottle top and had an 'aha' moment.  I think it looks fab as the key embellishment on this card. I finished the card with some enamel dots and red bakers twine and a fab sentiment cut using a La La Land Stitched Tabs die set. The sentiment itself comes from a Little Darling's sentiment set called Friendship. It's on special right now too! These sentiments are great, they're 'little' so fit so nicely into the La La Land stitched tabs dies.

Well that's it for today, I have to get these poorly poppets some lunch. Check out what my talented teamies got up to for this challenge, they have created some fabulous cards and layouts. Come and join us with your own kids creations. We'd love to see what you do with this theme. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Have a fabulous week. Hugs, Wends x

P.S. I took another quick pic this morning, as the main one above was a bit blurry taken last night indoors. Excuse the wobbly angle, I was trying to catch the light, but this is a bit clearer than the other pic.

Sweet Stampin' ~ Father's Day/Special Man

Hey there my lovelies, it's time again for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and I'm running out the door to have a date night with hubby! We're off to see Air Supply, I can't wait! So I'm going to pop up a picture of my make and come back later to fill in the details. Head on over to the Sweet Stampin' challenge to check out our fabulous new challenge. This week the theme is Father's Day/Special Man.

I've used a couple of really fun stamps from Unity stamps for my creation and I'll add the detes later on. Here's the card for now. Back soon xxxx

Sorry to run out with my blog post half written but have been helping friends shift house today and now off for date night with hubby. I can't even tell you the last time we did that! So I'm super excited, it's a real treat. We are off to see Air Supply. Thank goodness for wonderful brothers who love hanging out with their niece and nephew!!

I'll be back soon with the rest of the post. Hugs to you all, Wends x

Gosh I haven't been the best blogger of late, leaving posts half written. The detes for this card follow for easy reference.

Film Strip Die ~ MFT
Sentiment ~ Unity Stamps
Twine & Mini Wooden Peg
Stitched Circle Die ~ Lil' Inkers
Colouring Medium ~ Distress Ink
Washi Tape ~ SpiegelMom Scraps
Vintage Camera Stamp ~ Unity Stamps

Here's a closer peek at the fab Unity Vintage Camera Stamp

Our wonderful sponsor for the challenge this week is Marianne Design so our winner is in for a real treat. Come on over and join in the fun with your own creation for Father's Day or to honour a special man in your life. My card was created for a family member who was celebrating their 50th recently. He's a photographer, so it was especially appropriate to use this vintage camera on his card. I got away with the cheeky sentiment too! He's taken on a very important and special role in our family lately, so it was easy to choose this card for the 'Special Man' challenge. I look forward to seeing what you would create for this challenge.

Here's a closer peek at the sentiment. It got a few good laughs!

We are also having a DT call at the moment. We are down a couple of team members and would like to recruit some new talent. The detes are on the challenge blog, so go check it out if you're interested. But I can tell you, we are a close knit team, and this is one of my favourite DT's that I'm on, so if you're at all interested, don't hesitate!

Hugs to you all, Wends x

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Enchanted I'm Sure

Hello lovelies. It's Wednesday so time for a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and this week they're letting me loose on the blog as I am the hostess. So it was my turn to choose the theme and as most of you know who've been following my blog a while, I love fairies, mermaids, and mythical creatures, so I have chosen the theme 'Enchanted I'm Sure'. Which really means, create something with a mythical or mystical theme. You could choose a mermaid, fairy, unicorn or go the way of knights, dragons and damsels, as long as it's enchanting in some way, I'll think you've nailed it!

Our wonderful sponsor Julia Spiri could have not been better suited to this challenge, her images are full of enchantment, magic and mystical mythical creatures. The DT were spoilt to have her images to play with for this challenge. I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I was to have this sweet image to colour up.

Ooh check out this gorgeous creature - The Flower Girl or as I've nicknamed her 'The Lady of the Flowers'. With those flower shaped irises I imagine her to be some mythical creature like 'The Lady of the Lake'. I think she's ethereal, wistful and enchanting. I wanted to colour her up to look as if she was part of the forest, as if her hair was moss and the flowers actually grow there. I see her as some woodland sprite, a forest spirit. I think she's beautiful and in my mind, she's utterly perfect for our challenge this week at Fab 'n' Funky.

I've added oodles of Wink of Stella to this creation, which of course is impossible to see in the above pic, but the colour balance is best in that pic, so gives a truer impression of the colours. But the pic below taken under the spots, shows the pretty sparkles, even if she is a bit bleached out.

I used my Promarkers of course to colour this beauty and stamped some gorgeous Lili of the Valley Grunge Elements around her. The pretty floral stamp I've used in the top left and bottom right corner are from Unity Stamps, as is the lovely sentiment. I have a cousin undergoing radiotherapy at present, so this card is meant for her and I wanted a sentiment to let her know how much she is in our hearts and on our minds, so this fit the bill perfectly. As you can see in the pic below, I dabbed some Wink of Stella in the centre of the two biggest flowers to add a subtle touch of sparkle. I had a wee inky accident under the sentiment, so don't look too closely at that poor butterfly, I managed to mop the worst up quickly, so not a total disaster.

Finally, the reveal of the full card, I chose a CAS design, with foam behind the image panel for a bit of dimension and a paper strip down the side that would bring out the pink of the flowers and tone down the green a bit. The pink paper is from a gorgeous DCWV 12x12 paper stack that my lovely baby sis sent from America. The postage was horrendous for her, poor poppet, but oh my goodness what a totally scrummy treaty parcel to receive! I'll see if I can find a pic of the parcel as there were so many spoily gorgeous bits to it. A super lovely treaty surprise.

So there she is my forest nymph, as much a part of the forest as the animals and trees. Yes, her skin is green, perhaps not the best choice of skin colour for my cousin's sake, but I wanted her to look and feel surreal and elvin. Hopefully that's how she's viewed not as 'Vampirish' as my hubby suggested she looked! Bah, I don't see it!

Come on over and join in with my challenge this week at Fab 'n' Funky, I would LOVE to see what you come up with for this challenge. You have to stop in and check out what my talented teamies did for the challenge too, as I have to say, they hit it out the ballpark this week, their makes are stunning! So come visit and if you love what you see be sure to visit their blogs and let them know. I'll be back before long with another crafty adventure. Have a fabby week. Big hugs, Wends x
