Monsters Vs Aliens

I have been struggling to know what to make for our friend's sons birthday. But came up with the idea of an 'Alien' card, so I could use the sentiment 'have an out of this world birthday' or something to that effect. But then I came across this fab image - Monster Joe - from A Day for Daisies, which is the snuggliest looking monster/alien. Isn't he fab?! So I figured I'd go with it and the card would come together. I think I should have inked him in Green, as the little aliens look a little stark against his lighter blue tones. But I was so happy with how he had turned out using two shades of my promarkers to add texture, that I didn't want to start again in green! I had to ink some of the stars in the backing paper in the stronger green to try and tie the little aliens in a bit better. It's not a perfect fit, or my best card, but we all have off days right?

I had a misbehaving Memory Box die recently, my first one ever to not cut perfectly. I'd shimmed and used the special metal cutting plate etc, but it's still not cutting through properly, so I tried to 'treat' it using tin foil and I couldn't bring myself to turf it afterwards. I think it looks quite spacey and otherworldly with it's cosmic shapes. It is of course called 'Cosmo Border'. It's still misbehaving, so I might have to admit defeat and return it, but at least I got this border out of it!

It's not unusual for me, despite my best intentions, to run a little late for things, so when it came time to type up the sentiment, I went for 'past tense' as he wouldn't be getting the card or his presents until after the fact. I love the font I found to type it in, I was really pleased with it's spacey feel. I inked the edges in Vintage Photo Distress Ink, but also inked in a bit over the circle in Memento Summer Sky to give the circle a 'planet' sort of feel. I'm pretty happy with the effect achieved.

The lil' aliens are from a Quickutz die as is the UFO and the star. I inked the aliens with my Emerald Green Promarker and the spaceship and star were cut from Papermania capsule collection textured cardstock.

The backing paper I've used is from a lovely Bo Bunny paper pad called Blast Off. I was actually intending to use two pages from the paper pad, but when I laid the decorative border on, it just didn't work with the second feature paper, so I opted for the border and not two papers. I'll just have to have another go at a 'boys card' using the two papers together. There's bound to be another birthday soon I'll need a card for.

So here it is. All the components of the card together.

This is fabulous Wendy. I love that cute monster and you have coloured him so well, I think the blue works really well with the papers. I love the border die and die cut aliens too.

Wendy, I think you did a marvelous job of developing your design! All the elements support your sentiment. The great thing about working with alien imagery is that you can create any world you wish and no one can argue with you about it! Wonderfully project, nicely executed. Thanks for leaving this in our mailbox here at 613 Avenue Create!
