Southern Girls - Stars

It's time for a new challenge over on the Southern Girls Challenge blog. We have a fab one for you this time around too. 'Starry Starry Night' is our theme for this challenge, so essentially, we want to see stars! However you interpret this is fine. Our fabulous sponsors for this challenge are Lacy Sunshine Stamps and Art by MiRan. I was given a gorgeous stamp by Art by MiRan to use for this challenge called Punkette Peta. She was so fun to colour!

I've had my first go EVER at colouring with distress inks for this make. Even going for an ombré effect on her hair. Now don't look too closely, as there's an obvious mistake near one of her eyes, but apart from making the skin look like she's wearing a really horrid fake tan, I'm actually pretty pleased with my first ever attempt at colouring using Distress Ink Markers. I've still a long way to go, but hey, we have to start somewhere right?

I've patched some cool papers together and faux stitched them to create a 'handmade quilt' kinda feel to the card. I'm really pleased with this as close up the ink stitches are a little ropey, but further away, it's not a bad effect. The base paper is from a Bazzill Basics paper set by Janet Hopkins called Wayfarer. I have a softspot for travel themed papers and these are fabulous! The star paper and the yellow chevrons are two sides of the same page from a My Mind's Eye set.

I chose a fab 'star themed' uplifting sentiment from CC Designs Amy R Stamps collection called Starry Sentiments for my make. I really love these sentiments and this fit perfectly for my creation. I wanted the sentiment on the base paper to show in addition to the sentiment I inked as I think they work really nicely together. So I angled and placed the image so this would be fully visible. I thought the card needed just a little bit more to balance all the elements, so I diecut a star from my Quickutz dies using the handheld tool and added some Glossy Accents to give it a little shine and dimension. I also used my Quickutz tool to diecut some plain photo corners to finish the top of the card and again tie in all the paper elements.
