Fab 'n' Funky ~ No Designer Papers
Hey there my lovely blog pals. It's time for a new challenge over on the Fab 'n' Funky Challenge blog and this week our wonderful hostess is Julieanne. Our theme this week chosen by the lovely Jools is 'No Patterned Paper'. Oooh, you know how I love my papers, so this IS a challenge! Head on over to the challenge blog to see how my awesomely talented teamies got on with that.
Here she is sweet Mermaid Rory from our lovely sponsor Lacy Sunshine, all sparkled up with Wink of Stella. It's such a lovely image, and I was excited about this creation, right up until I decided to add some 'seaweed' stamping up the sides. Oh dear, quelle tristesse! She did look so sweet right up until that point! Ever have one of those days where you just wish you could have a 'do over'? My daughter Georgie came out with a fun phrase the other day and today I could really have done with this! She made a mistake on her school work and said, "Oh no! Why doesn't life have a backspace button Mama?!" Beautifully put baby, today, I felt the same!
So it seems Mr Mojo is still on holiday. I had thought I had a pretty good idea for this challenge, but the reality did not match my imagination at all. Such a shame as it could have been fabulous! But I think my seaweed ink was too dark and spoiled the whole look. Still, these are my inky adventures and I learn from each one. I was so pleased with her hair and her tail, that I was bitterly disappointed when the 'seaweed' went so wrong. At this point, I've no idea how to 'save' this creation. So I'm just posting it here in the hopes that one of you has some super clever, 'never would have thought of that' solution. So feel free to share if you do!
I've coloured the image with Distress Ink and Distress Markers. Which came up so nicely and I had a lovely faint blue wash around her that looked so dreamy and lovely. If only I'd left it there and settled on the plain blue strip down the side. Oh well, we live and learn. (Sorry if I'm sounding really moany, I've just had a horrid day and this was the 'straw that broke the camel's back' as they say!)
The pic above is not in great lighting, I put the image right under the spots so that the Wink of Stella would show, but it messes with the light balance, so just focus on the pretty sparkles and ignore the rest. LOL.
Right I think that's more than enough from old moany pants tonight. Go check out what my fabulous (far less moany) teamies have been up to and come and join us for some 'No Patterned Paper' fun. I'd love to see what you'd do. It'll cheer me right up! Happy hugs to you all, Wends x
Update: So yesterday was a disaster, but today is another day and I've had a good laugh at myself and a second look at my wee mermaid. I can't get the lighting right to capture this card properly, so what follows is a little photo montage of 'the fixes'. Better I think. :)
Best pic of the true colours in the make, But this angle doesn't show the sparkles.
Under the spots, so hair not quite right, but look, sparkles!
Still under the spots, so the colour is a bit bleached, but here's a close up of the pretty sparkles.
Thanks for putting up with my strop yesterday, hope you like the changes and fixes I chose. I think it's infinitely better. A plain strip of paper down the side, a new 'straight' sentiment, and some glittery enamel dot bubbles. Much better me thinks!
Hugs, Wends x

The only save I can suggest is to trim out the image and mount her on a plain blue background like the one you first created.

Now, both versions of your card are lovely! I am delighted that you're happier with the final result. The image is adorable and you've colored her so wonderfully. I love your seaweed idea and the sweet pops of bubbles. This challenge theme is HARD but you've shown us that we don't need pretty papers to create a gorgeous card. :o) Thank you for the inspiration, my dear friend. Smile at everything you create and enjoy every blessed moment of crafting. (And Georgie is amazing! I love that she said that.) :o) I will be back as soon as possible to leave you more bloggie love. Have a sparkly day, my sparkly friend!
Hugs and blessings,
Karen
