Turner Syndrome Blog Hop with Whimsy Stamps
Hey there lovely crafty pals. I'm here today to share two happy things with you. The first is the Digital Divas Monthly Showcase for Whimsy Stamps which includes this utterly adorable image by Crissy Armstrong called Fistful of Flowers. The second is that I'm sharing this creation as part of a Bloghop that Whimsy Stamps is sponsoring to bring awareness to Turner's Syndrome.
Turner's Syndrome affects only girls and affects 1 in every 2000-2500 girls. Turner Syndrome is named after Dr Henry Turner who discovered the genetic disorder in 1938. Girls with Turner's Syndrome are born missing their second X Chromosome, leaving them with life long medical issues. They may have health complications such as heart defects, learning disabilities and infertility. More can be discovered about Turner's Syndrome on the main Blog Hop site and do check out Lori's Story too.
I chose this adorable image by Whimsy Stamps artist Crissy Armstrong for my creation and coloured it with my Copic Markers in the colours chosen to represent Turner's Syndrome for this Blog Hop. The sweet sentiment was provided by the lovely Lori Kobular who organised this Blog Hop in honour of her daughter Julie who has Turner's Syndrome. The stamp set was designed by the equally lovely Donna Ellis.
The adorable Butterfly Digital Paper I used is from Whimsy Stamps designer Denise Lynn. The significance of using this sweet paper, is that not only was it a perfect fit for the Turner Syndrome colours, but also, the 'butterfly' is the emblem of Turner's Syndrome. Just like a butterfly, they are considered fragile and beautiful miracles. The butterfly was chosen because it is feminine yet strong. Every butterfly is unique, and butterflies fly on their own which is the hope for all Turner's Syndrome girls.
I kept the card design very simple, using the Turner's Syndrome colours, adding some clouds with distress ink and a hand cut stencil. I used a pretty border die for the image panel and main paper panel, raising them both on foam for a bit of dimension. A very simple 'folded ends' yellow ribbon was the finishing touch to my design.
More research is needed into Turner's Syndrome and February is Turner's Syndrome Awareness month, so with this Blog Hop we hope to raise awareness about this condition and in turn help these beautiful young ladies with Turner's Syndrome. If you'd like to donate to the cause, you can donate on the official Turner's Syndrome Foundation site.
