Sweet Stampin' ~ Things With Wings

Hey crafty friends, I'm back with the second post of my busy weekend. It's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and we've chosen the lovely theme 'Things With Wings' this week. I do hope you'll come and play along, it can be interpreted so many different ways! I wasn't sure whether to pull out my lovely planes and make a masculine card or play with a fairy. Well, you know what won right?!

I adore fairies and have coloured up this enchanting image from Tammy at A Day For Daisies. I was so sad that her shop closed last year, her work is enchanting. But I heard a recent rumour that the store may be making a come back! So I'm excited about that. I find her images so sweet and wistful and lovely. I pulled out my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolour Paints to colour up this cutie. I've zero confidence with watercolours, so don't use them often, but I have had the loveliest adventure with this sweet image and mixing the colours to get the hues I wanted. I just love the soft sweet finish it has. I then found the perfect sentiment in my stash from a VERY old Stampavie set by Tina Wenke called Happy Birthday and used Kaisercraft Denim ink to add it to the card. A softer finish than black would have been and I really like it.

I  actually used a shimmery watercolour that's part of the set I have on the flower centres for a bit of extra interest. It doesn't show on the fairy's wings well, so I may go back and just add some loose glitter on this to really make them pop, but I didn't have time to do this before prepping my post for today. I took the above pic indoors under the spots, so the sparkle shows better. I adore the way this frame works for pieces like this. It's a gorgeous Whimsy Stamps frame and I used it a few times for my Christmas cards and loved the look it lent then too. I'll have to share some of those pics later.

To give the design some interest and dimension, I've backed each of those little sections from the die up with layers of card to get some additional dimension. The foam I had was too thick, so I opted to use up some waste paper to do my layering. I used about 4 layers of cardstock under my image piece, gluing each piece well in place. I'm running out of my Ranger Multi Medium Matte, so I used another favourite glue, my Olba glue. This never makes my paper layers pucker or warp, which is so important when layering like this and because I use a syringe to apply it, can be quite specific in the amount and spread. Worked a treat to be honest, I'll totally do this again! It'll be possibly a bit heavier to post than foam would have been, but otherwise a good use of waste scraps I thought!

Thanks for popping in to visit today. I love reading your comments, especially in these slightly lonely social isolation days, so thank you so much if you do leave a comment! I hope you'll come and join our challenge this week, it was our lovely Susan's birthday yesterday, so be sure to leave a little love for her if you're popping into her blog. I'll be back again really soon with another crafty creation. Hugs and stay safe, Wends xoxo

so very nice card!
What an incredible image Wends, and so exquisitely coloured... it took me a few seconds to 'find' the fairy!! love the way you have used the frame and lifted the panels, that is a fabulous finish to the card.
I am doing o.k. - I have been taken into my daughter's 'bubble', which is fabulous - the kids were missing me, and I must admit to missing them too, as we normally see quite a lot of each other. My son and his wife and family often call by and we chat over the fence :), and then there are the video chats with both families.
Stay safe
Blessings
