Whimsy Stamps ~ Walking On Sunshine

Hey there my lovely crafty pals. It's been a crazy busy past month and I've created more than I've shared! So this is a little catch up post for a creation I shared on our Inspiration Blog at Whimsy Stamps during July, but never quite got shared here. I had the best fun creating this cute card. The image is from our fabulous Some Odd Girl collection and was such fun to colour up. This cutie is aptly called Ice Cream Penguin.

I started off with an idea to use this fabulous Whimsy Stamps background stamp called Cosmic Swirl for a fun Summery themed card and I just love how this came out in the warm tangerine tones. I diecut the frame, keeping the two sections to use on my card. I love it when a design crosses two layers and have been doing this quite a bit lately. This older die set from Whimsy works a treat for this, as both inside and outside the frame have lovely stitched details. I had some offcut Palm Trees that I'd diecut for a previous creation on my work desk, from one of Whimsy's brilliant Build A Scene die sets, which I thought would lend a Summery feel to this design, so added those, keeping them white, so they added that feel, without grabbing attention from the coloured image. The cute sentiment is from a fabulous Simple Sentiments set from Whimsy Stamps, which added the perfect finish to this card.

While I was crafting this card, I had Katrina and the Waves ~ Walking on Sunshine, running through my head. I was happily humming and singing away. I really was such a happy card to create! Hehe. I coloured up the cute penguin with Copic Markers and masked it to add the pink candy floss clouds behind. If you've ever been to New Zealand, you may have tasted our fabulous and rather iconic 'hokey pokey' ice-cream. It's my favourite flavour so I had to depict it there in this image. My hubby loves mint chocolate chip, so that is one of the flavours too and I decided to go for a fresh crushed strawberry flavour to finish. It's not uncommon here in New Zealand to find ice-cream made with freshly crushed strawberries during strawberry picking season. So this was the inspiration for that final flavour. A simple but cute card don't you think?

Thanks so much for popping in to visit today. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to blog this creation. I'll be sharing my New Release creation right after this, as it's actually what I meant to share today. But didn't want to leave this cutie locked up in the vault. So I'll be back very soon with another crafty adventure! Hugs and happy crafting to you in the meantime xoxo
