Sweet Stampin' ~ Special Women

Hey crafty friends, it's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and this time we're celebrating those 'Special Women' in our lives. It's International Women's Day on March 8th, so we want to celebrate this special day and the special women in our lives who inspire and uplift us.

I've made this beautiful card for my darling Mummy who is the greatest female influence in my life. I am one of seven children and she has raised us all to know love and to know how to express love. She's very precious to me and I'm so happy to still have her in my life at 82 years old. She's getting a little slower these days, she tires more easily and needs a little more time and TLC from us kids, but I couldn't be happier to play this role for her. I celebrate her in this beautiful card, the sentiment is so perfect for her.

I used a gorgeous embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp called Floating Flowers which came with a kit I ordered this year. I had the sweetest present from hubby for my last birthday, to enrol me for the regular Simon Says Stamp Card Kit. I have only got a few this year as some of them just weren't my cup of tea, but I love having the option to dip in and out like that. I did get a few kits this year and this lovely embossing folder came with one of them. I'll link it below so you can see which one. I bunched up some pretty silver and white sparkly thread behind the florals for a bit of texture and interest. I used a corner rounder on the top two corners and again on the card base before gluing the layers together. The floral panel and sentiment were added with foam to pop them up a bit from the textured background. The sentiment is from a pre-foiled sentiment set from Pinkfresh Studio. The lovely florals are also from Pinkfresh Studio and I stamped them in VersaFine Clair ink in Pinecone and used a stencil set to colour the blooms.

I chose an orange accent for the small blooms to contrast with these more muted desaturated main blooms. I love these desaturated colours. Simon Says Stamp have released a few cool desaturated inks lately and I really find myself drawn to them. I used their Aster ink for the darkest elements, their Pansy Ink for the mid tones and their Petunia for the lightest sections. The orange I used, I think came from a Catherine Pooler ink in one of the sets I bought a while back. I don't tend to use these a lot as they don't really come as 'blending families', but there are some nice hues in the sets which I pull out occasionally. I added a little sparkly touch to the flower centres with a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen in Midas Touch, which adds a lovely golden hue and sparkle and worked well with the darker centres of these flowers.

Thanks for popping in to visit today. I hope you're able to come and join us for our Special Women Challenge at Sweet Stampin' and do stop by the challenge to check out what my talented teamies got up to for this challenge. See you again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends xoxo

(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
