Dream Valley Baby
It's time for a new challenge at Dream Valley and I've been inspired by our wonderful sponsors Freckled Fawn, to use some washi tape in my creation. I made this for my cousin who's recently had a baby girl. I wanted to embellish the gift box I was using for their sweet baby girls present and had just been given a gorgeous gift from one of my sisters as a late birthday present, which included this utterly delish washi tape by My Mind's Eye from their Chalk Studio range. Around the same time, I received a parcel of gorgeous embellishments from Flourish with a Bling, so pulling a few threads together with these things as my starting point I managed to embellish the box I think rather gorgeously, for my cousin's baby girl.
The box I used was one I had in my stash from when Zac was a baby. It came with a lovely angora knit set from the White Company in London. It was in great condition and being the avid recycler I am, I had kept it to use for just such an event as this. It has a lovely clear window in the lid, which you can see through to the contents. I had found some gorgeous black satin baby mary jane's for my cousins wee girl, which I thought would look so cute through this window. But when I popped them in there, I was really underwhelmed with the finish on the box. So I decided to embellish, and embellish I did. Starting with the gorgeous washi tape my sister had given me, trimming it to fit around the edge and mitering the corners to fit nicely. I had some sweet pink cotton lace in my stash which I've had for the longest time, and I pull out only occasionally for those special makes. This was a perfect colour match to the pink in the washi tape and happily a great match for the lovely pink fabric flower from Flourish with a Bling. I was really chuffed to put that new purchase straight to use!
I cut a pretty tag from shimmery white card using my Magnolia Doohickey Vintage Tag die and stamped a lovely Lili of the Valley sentiment onto the tag. I used a narrow picot edged pink ribbon to tie on the tag and a sweet small gingham ribbon to add to the lower right edge of the box for balance.
This final pic shows the sweet little mary jane's in the box ready to give. I really was happy with how this little creation came together. So simple and yet so striking and will make a really lovely 'keepsake box' for those little bits and pieces like baby's hospital bracelet and lock of hair. All those little things new mums can't bear to part with. Well that's all from me today. Do come on over to the Dream Valley Challenge to see what my talented team mates have been up to and join in our 'Baby Challenge'. We'd love to see what you create. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends x
