Walk on the Wild Side

I have this refrain running through my head, ...doo da doo, doo doo da doo doo... hey babe, talk a walk on the wild side... Hehe, the whole time I've been creating this lil' card, it's been there in the back of my mind. I wonder what tunes come to you while you're crafting?

It's time for a new Fab 'n' Funky Challenge and this time, I am the host. Our wonderful sponsor Doodle Pantry gave the crew some fabulous images to work with, and as so many of their gorgeous stamps are animals, I thought we would go for the fun challenge theme of 'Walk on the Wildside'. Aha! So you get now why I've had that song running through my head.

Not being content with only one animal to colour on my stamp, I thought I'd go for the whole shabbang and colour up the fabulous 'Ark of Faith' digistamp. Doodle Pantry actually have two really gorgeous Noah's Ark inspired stamps, so you can imagine the hours I wasted humming and harring over which one to use! I had a grand plan to try and assist in the texture of the animals skins; I chose to use a digital paper as the base and colour on top, because quite frankly I'm pants yet at stuff like that!

I found a cool paper from the fabulous Funky Hand collection which worked really well for the animals that needed a bit of texture and definition. Although, I would have preferred my second elephant not to have had the line from the digi paper right in the middle of his face. I tried to disguise this with the colouring, but it is still evident. I didn't have enough ink to reprint the stamp on a different aspect of the digi paper, which would have worked. Though, I think I got away with it, just!

I love the texture on the elephants in particular. There was a lighter version of this digi paper, which I wish I'd used, as the animals did look quite 'dark' when I'd finished adding the ink. I added the colour and shading details with my Promarkers. I was hoping that the brightness of the Promarker rainbow I hand drew on the card background would add a lift to the slightly darker aspects of the card, I'm not sure that it did, so I'll definitely will go for the lighter base paper next time.

(The angle of this shot, better shows the dimension of the paper piecing.)

Miss clever pants here, thought she'd be saving herself some colouring by using the digi paper for the animals and another one for the wood texture on the boat, but I ended up doing hours of fussy cutting instead. Thank goodness for my fabulous wide loop fussy cutting scissors from Joanna Sheen, these really have made such a difference to my hands when doing this detailed work. I loved them so much, I bought a second pair for my Mother-in-law, who is a quilter.

Here's a closer peak at some of the details. I wanted Noah to look like he was wearing a hessian shirt, as I imagine the fabrics would have been rawer back then, so I used two different shades of pale Promarkers to create the weave effect. The seaspray swirl was also cut from a digital paper and then some Eucalyptus Stickles added for some sparkle. I did both blue and pink versions of the number two which were cut with my lovely new numbers die from Marianne Design. The 'two by two' aspect of this stamp lends itself so nicely to celebrating a second birthday I think, or perhaps for twins!

Thanks for popping in today to have a look at my DT card for Fab 'n' Funky Challenge #224. I hope you liked my CAS creation, clearly not so clean OR simple! But I did want to keep the design very basic as it was such a detailed stamp. So I printed the image in A5 size to fill the card. Do come on over and visit the wonderful creations the rest of the team have made and come join us with your own wild and wonderful creation. We'd love to see what you come up with for the challenge. Hugs, Wends x

This is fantastic , Wendy! The shaded paper piecing looks great, and adds so much texture. The lovely bright rainbow is the perfect contrast to the darker shades, a beautifully designed card.

Hi Wendy,
Hope you're keeping well. Hope the winter has been mild; this summer has been the best I've experienced here in the UK in the 10 years I've lived here. Very cool card. Thanks for linking up to LLC's By the Sea challenge.
