Fab 'n' Funky ~ 3 or More Layers

Ooh I've a lovely post to share with you today. I had such fun creating this one! It's time of course for a new challenge on the Fab 'n' Funky blog and this week and our challenge is being hosted by the lovely Pat K. She has chosen the fabby theme '3 or More Layers'.

I do love a multilayered card, so I had great fun with this one. We are being sponsored this week by the fabulous Live & Love Crafts. Which those of you who follow my blog know how much I love Sandy's gorgeous store and all those shabby chic goodies! I just love the clever crafters who create shabby chic designs with such ease. I struggle with that style, but I do so love it! So today, in honour of our lovely sponsor Sandy, I've had a go at creating a slightly more shabby chic styled card. It's still not 'truly' shabby chic, but I'm delighted with it.

I've used a beautiful image from Crafts & Me artist Hannah Lynn. I just love her work, those eyes, I could get lost in them! Don't ask me what possessed me to give her purple hair, it was a fit of creativity and it just sort of happened. I'd like to have added one more, slightly darker shade to the shadow areas, but I was so pleased with it at this stage, I was petrified if I added one more darker shade I'd wreck it! I just have to keep playing and experimenting with my Promarkers, but I do love how the hair came out. Here she is in a more shaded light.

That yummy blue paper was such a lovely one from a Grace Taylor paper pad called Vintage Elegance. I just loved the embossed finish on the roses and I was drawn to adding some pretty pearl flourishes which toned in with the roses. I used the pearl flourish to create interest at the base of the card and popped the leftovers on the top right corner. You may recognize the sentiment from my 90th Birthday make. I really love this one from an older Whiff of Joy Sentiment Set by Katharina Frei called General Sayings, which I've added to a shaped tab die from La La Land. Here she is basking in the sunshine.

I've used a Go Kreate frame (Frilly #9) to cut the pretty card shape. The darker purple mat is a paint pot sample card, and the base of the butterflies, I cut from the middle of the paint pot mat before I stuck it down behind the image (sneaky eh, you'd never know!) I cut the second layer of the butterflies from a lighter textured cardstock and bent the wings up to give them dimension and make it look like they are in flight. I added some pretty holographic non-faceted gems down the spine to create their bodies. I tucked a heart doily behind the image and some cheesecloth for a soft romantic look. The image was cut with a wonky stitched die from Lil' Inkers.

Do head over to Live & Love Crafts and check out what the gorgeous Sandy has in store right now. She's just had some fabby deals on her gorgeous Maja Design papers from Sweden, so you know I couldn't resist! I just love all the gorgeous shabby chic goodies in that store!

Check out what my talented DT sister's at Fab 'n' Funky have been up to and come join us for some fun with our '3 or More Layers' challenge this week. I'd love to see what you'd do for it. I'm writing this post as I'm gearing up for the kiddos return to school. Uniforms all washed and clean, loads of holiday fun had and memories made - check! So I'll be busy for the next few days getting them settled back into school. Man I'm going to miss them! I love having them around during school break. Right, that's all from me today. I'll see you again soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, I wish you a fabulous week and loads of crafty fun! Hugs, Wends x

My sweet friend, this is gorgeous! You've brought the beautiful image to life and have surrounded her with prettiness. The sparkly paper is stunning and I love the soft, textural layers you added to the sign. I swoon at the abundance of pearly flourishes... everything is perfectly dreamy, Wends. Just like your sentiment will encourage the recipient, so too are YOU amazing. :o)

Your post reminded me of a couple of things I keep forgetting to mention to you! The layered lace on my Graciellie card last week is the one from you! In my mega rush while typing my post, I forgot to say that. I love it and it worked beautifully for my card. Thank you! Also, I forgot to tell you how I managed to snag one of the Go Kreate #7s. When you first saw me use it, you said it's always out of stock.. and sadly, that is usually true. The only way I finally got it was because I signed up to be notified when it comes back in stock. The option is on the product page. The email came in right when they restocked and I swooped in before it was too late. Hopefully they will replenish soon.

Sweet Wends, I hope your weekend is filled with happiness! And thank you for sharing your beautiful creation with us at Live & Love Crafts. :o)

Hugs and blessings,
Karen
