Fab 'n' Funky ~ Shaped Cards

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. It's the middle of the week, which means it's time for a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and we have such a lovely one for you this week. Our hostess this challenge is the lovely Ginny and she's chosen the theme 'Shaped Cards'. So don't be a square! Join us in creating your own shaped creation. There really are some beautiful card shapes out there now and some fabulous special fold cards. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with.

We have a wonderful sponsor for this challenge and all the DT had the joy of colouring these gorgeous images for our DT creations. I just LOVE the stamp I used. My daughter utterly loves wolves, as you'll know if you follow my blog. So when I saw their gorgeous She Wolf image, I had to use it! I loved the colours on their pre-coloured image so much, that I decided to work with that version for this creation.

Georgie has always loved dreamcatchers so I had the idea to create a 'faux' dreamcatcher card using this gorgeous She Wolf image. I just love the sweet features of the girl and that amazing wolf hat. My Georgie is rarely without her wolf hat, so this image is beyond perfect for her. Needless to say, there were whoops and yelps when she got home from school today for the big reveal. She was very excited.

I wanted to create the dream catcher from paper, rather than make a traditional hoop and thread style one, so I cut layers of card and used a doily to create the effect of the lacey threads. But then I decided to add thread to the layer behind the image. Which sadly does get covered up a bit, but I still think it's nice to have the stitching there. Below you can see some of my process, the finished stitching, the back of the circle showing the 'shortcuts' so I didn't use so much thread, the doily being stuck to the backing board to create some strength and give me somewhere to write Georgie's message. I added a loop of string at this stage, so that the dreamcatcher can be hung.

I meant to add beads to the threaded feathers and annoyingly forgot all about it until I was actually finished! I had even picked out some little blue beads that would have worked well with the image, so I'm kicking myself for that. But despite that omission, I still think the wee feathery threads came up well. I stitched all the little feathers onto white cotton which I knotted periodically to keep the feathers in place. I added the twine tassels to fill out the design a wee bit and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I hope you'll come and join us with your own 'Shaped Card' creation. I so look forward to what our entrants create for this challenge, it's always cool to see a different take on the theme. I hope you've all enjoyed seeing my wee dreamcatcher card and I'll be back again before long with another crafty adventure. Have a gorgeous week. Big hugs, Wends x (Woops, better show you the finished card! Here you go...)

No wonder Georgie loved this beautiful creation; not only is it clearly so perfect for her with the image, but it is utterly enchanting too.
I love to see the process behind the making of it and those thread details were definitely worth adding...just the little peeks of them behind the image definitely makes it look like a dreamcatcher.
It's so full of texture too, with the burlap and those fabulous feathers...they are absolutely the perfect finishing touch :-)
Big hugs, Kat xx
