St: Lucia
Hey there, my lovely blog buddies. I'm popping in today very quickly to share a card I made for my Swedish pal to celebrate Saint Lucia. We don't celebrate this in New Zealand, but I have loved hearing over the years stories of their celebrations in Sweden from my pal and seeing the pics of her boys being involved in the school celebrations for this. I found an utterly perfect image a couple of years ago drawn by Elisabeth Bell and knew exactly who I wanted to colour this up for. I have this as a rubber stamp, but I believe she was recently released as a digital image by Elisabeth Bell. I love her images, they are so timeless and enchanting. They remain some of my favourite images to work with after all these years!
I was too late to creating it for Saint Lucia, but sent it with her Christmas parcel. I decided it needed something a little different to stage it well. So settled on making a tee-pee card design. I had some festive paper which worked really well together for this, so used three different papers from the same set. I love how this looked all made up. These were from a magazine cover gift. I can't recall which one, so if anyone knows, please feel free to share that with me.
I've seen tee-pee cards done with a plain base card and then layers of patterned paper on top, but my paper was a heavy enough weight to use as the base. So I cut three squares of paper the same size. I think mine were 5x5 inch, but you could do 6x6 for a slightly larger tee-pee base or 4x4 for a slightly smaller one. The size you choose will depend on the size of topper you want to add to it. I could have gone slightly larger again for this topper quite easily, but I liked this smaller size. There are a number of tutorials out there on how to create a tee-pee card, so I want do that here, but it's incredibly easy for the brilliant effect it creates, so don't be afraid to give it a go!
To 'fix' the edge that you want the card to open at, so it can be laid flat for posting, I used a little hand cut square of velcro. I've seen the fixing done with tiny magnets as well, both work very well. You can tell from the way the red paper pops up slightly over the white corner, that this was where my velcro fixer went. The magnets lay slightly flatter, but not majorly so.
Well that's my Christmas tee-pee card and I want to enter it into the Elisabeth Bell Challenge, so I'm off to link up to that now. Happy New Year hugs to you all, Wends xoxo

As You Like It Challenge: Favourite Hair Colour Combo ~ I love doing blonde hair, mostly because I think it's a little more forgiving of bad technique than darker hair! LOL. I use Promarkers and I love a soft combo of Vanilla, Saffron, Tan and for some deeper highlights add a little caramel.
