Fab 'n' Funky ~ Teenager Birthday

Hey my lovely blog pals. It's time for a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and boy do we have an awesome line up for you today! We are being sponsored by the lovely team at 'Lili of the Valley' and we have been given several utterly gorgeous images to work with for this challenge, some of which haven't even been released yet! Woohoo, sneak peek treat!! The first image I worked with is called Ballet Shoes and it is just the cutest wee sweetie. It reminded me so much of my lovely niece who is currently over in France on an exchange program, so I deviated from the brief slightly, by using a 'Miss You' sentiment, rather than a 'Happy Birthday' one. Hopefully our gorgeous hostess Kristina will forgive me for this! (You so have to go check out her blog, man this girl can colour!!)

I used an utterly delish Nitwit paper for this card and I wanted to keep the design very CAS to let the paper show and also let the image feature. I think this design strikes a nice balance. I added a tiny banner from the paper just to bring a bit more interest and popped a wee pearl heart on top to finish. The sentiment is a Penny Black one from her lovely set called 'Eloquence'. Not only was it the perfect sentiment to send to my sweet niece (who will have been away just over 10 months when she returns home) but it also had a nice cascade that matched the paper angle I'd cut! Double bonus!!

I coloured this cutie with my Promarkers and I did her all in pink, because when I was a little girl doing ballet, this was exactly how we dressed, all in a slightly salmony pink. So this is a walk down memory lane for me, but more importantly, may be for my sweet niece who until recently was a ballerina and a very good one, so hopefully this will bring back some happy nostalgic memories. I added some Wink of Stella to the ballet shoes just for a bit of interest and added some shading under her. I'm really pleased with the CAS design of this card. I loved it so much in fact, I thought I'd do it all over again! So here's my Oliver card, the second fabulous LOTV image I was given to use for this challenge.

I used this 'angled' design for the first time just under a year ago (on this design) and loved it, so I've been wanting to use it again. I free-styled the cuts, trimming once I was happy with the angle, going back for a little more here and there. I just think it's a slightly jaunty fun design for a card, especially a 'teenagers' card. But when I printed Oliver, he was in a different position on the page to the girls! So, I turned the design on it's side and made it a side opening card.

The image is called 'Oliver Movie Night' and I think it's a fun one for a teenage boys birthday. So I'll be tucking that away for one of my nephews birthdays later this year. Hubby asked me if it was a '10 year olds' card. Puzzled? I was! No Greg, the 'X' doesn't stand for '10' it's an 'X' for the 'start' button on the playstation (which we use to watch movies too!) Clearly that was lost on the one person I thought would actually 'get it', oh well, if it was lost on you too, just consider it a 'kiss'. Hehe. The 'smile' sentiment is also from Lili of the Valley, from their 'Block Sentiments' set #102. Unfortunately the sketchy look of the stamp doesn't show here, my ink pad was too juicy. But I love that look and thought it worked well for this card. The fab plaid paper is from Pixel Scrappers digital designer Violet Irisovna from her Bright Days collection and is called Blue Plaid.

I hope you'll pop on over and join in our fabulous 'Kids & Teens Birthday' challenge. Our fabulous sponsor Lili of the Valley are having their '13th Birthday', so we are joining in the celebrations with them and I do hope you will too, by joining in our fun challenge. You are in for a super treat from our wonderful sponsor if you're the lucky winner!

Lili of the Valley was the very first stamp company I bought from when I first started crafting. It was one of their wood mounted fairies that I bought and I've loved their images and sentiments ever since. So Happy Birthday Lili of the Valley and congratulations to Laila, Lisa, Lucy, and all the team there for their awesome journey in this business. Keep it coming, we love your stamps! I'll be watching very keenly for the latest release which is due on May 20th, so mark it in your diaries peeps, it's promising to be a brilliant birthday release! Catch you all again soon, I'm off to do some more Pokemon Party prep for my lil' dudes birthday this weekend. Hugs, Wends xoxo

What a lovely design Wends, works so well with both of these gorgeous images...and looks so different too, didn't realise at first glance that it was the same L/O ...amazing what different papers and colours can do! Goes without saying that both images are gorgeous and I'm sure your niece will be delighted to know that you're thinking of her when she receives her beautiful card.
