Fab 'n' Funky ~ Christmas Crafting All Year Long

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. I'm sharing a Christmas card with you today that I gave to one of my sisters. I thought it would be 'oh so perfect' until she pointed out the spelling mistake! Just shows her being 3 years older during our time in France, made a huge difference! Long story short, we lived in France when we were little, so I often give my big sis' French themed creations. Needless to say, I was totally gutted when she pointed out the spelling mistake! There shouldn't be an 'a' in joyeux as there is on the card. I wish companies would check their spelling before going to print! It's not the first time I've been caught out by a misspelt stamp or embellishment. 

I've used some embossed cardstock from Doodlebug to cut the white layers from, which had a fun swirly pattern, I thought could work well for the snow mounds. I used two lovely Memory Box dies to cut the Frostyville snowflake layer and the Country Landscape scene layer. My only regret besides the misspelt sentiment, is that I used pearl accents instead of glitter for the snowy touches. I think glitter is far nicer on reflection. But I was trying something different. The pearly finish, was very 'flat' in comparison to the sparkle you get with glitter, so next time, it'll be back to glitter for my snowy finishes. I added enamel drops to emphasize some of the details on the snowy diecut, which again, on reflection, I think I would use crystal or pearl drops next time. I think the enamel is too 'flat' a finish, pearls or crystals, would have added lovely shine, so let's just chalk this up to a learning curve! LOL.

I really loved creating the 'inky' layer. I used distress inks in a couple of different colours and just merrily blended and mixed them around. If I recall correctly, I used Tumbled Glass and Wilted Violet Distress Inks. I splashed some watered down pearlescent white acrylic paint to finish and create a snowy type effect. I think I did the splatters too close and didn't thin it down enough, another learning curve, but I still like the effect once it dried. Looks more like a blizzard than soft snow fall, hehe.

Here you get a better sense of the dimensions in the layers. Such a fun inky messy experience. Lessons learned, notes to self on things I'd do differently next time, but all in all, a fun way to spend an afternoon!
