The Paper Door ~ Tiger Tails & Other Mischief

Hey lovely crafty pals. I'm back to share my second creation with the brand new Paper Door Kit for February with you! This is such an adorable kit! I am seriously crushing on these sweet Tigers and I've had a whole heap of fun creating with them! This time I made a kinetic card for my sweet nephew who is soon turning 2. He's such a cutie and I just know he's going to love the kinetic element of this fun card. He arrived yesterday from the States for a two week visit, so I'll get to give this to him in person before he goes home, yay!

This kinetic card was so fun to create. You tug on the tiger tail and this lil' guy pops up. So so fun for a kiddies card! I used one of the card bases in the kit to create this tri-fold base. Scoring it in even thirds. I then cut a diagonal line, so that the front of the card when folded, would be lower than the back, giving this tiered effect. I added several different patterned papers from the gorgeous set that comes with the kit.

I stamped the cute Tiger with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and coloured it in with my Copic Markers. I added little elements on the card that worked with the cute sentiment 'A Little Birdie Told Me...' I just love those lil' notes. That stamp is teeny tiny in the kit and stamps perfectly. So nice for that little extra detail.

I had my 'to do' list pad on the table when I was creating this card as I was multi-tasking writing my shopping list, which made me have a lil' brain wave to use one of those sheets for the message area of the card. It had lines and a simple foliage design on the page, so I trimmed it, added the wee birds from the set and some tweets and notes and it was good to go! My only regret is that I didn't edge it with some patterned paper behind, it may have looked slightly better that way, but oh well, note to self for next time!

I used the fabulous stencil that comes in the kit for this creation, both to create the pattern on the back of the wee Tiger. Which I did by diecutting a plain paper and using the reverse of the diecut so it matched the front and then coloured and added the stencil stripes, choosing a narrow part of the pattern for the smaller landscape. I'm so pleased with how it came out and think it finishes the back perfectly! I used the stencil again to add the stripes to the front of the pull tab, to make it look like a tiger tail. I didn't add them to the back, as I was worried it might bleed through and ruin the front, so kept the back plain.

Here's a wee montage of my creative process. I didn't use a fancy kinetic die for this, I just hand cut all the elements, but oh my goodness, I bought a set right after! It's quite a trick getting it all right and I know it will be much easier with the kinetic dies. They've been on my wish list, so this just spurred me on to get them. It's a very simple lever action kinetic creation and you can see the process I went through above to create it. I did end up shortening the middle strut to allow for some 3D foam to be put along the right hand side, so the paper would sit well over the mechanism. There was a wee bit of trimming and tweaking as I went, but otherwise, not too complex a make. I'm keen to try another once my new dies arrive!

The sentiments in this set are so so fun. I used several of the sentiments from the set on this card and the little companion birds are the absolute cutest! This is seriously one of the cutest stamp sets I've ever worked with and I just love how many different occasions you can design for with this set! The lil' sad ones melt my heart!

This kit truly is fabulous. Not only do you get the cute wee tiger's in this special edition 4×6 clear stamp set “Tabby Tigers” but there's a great range of sentiments too in this stamp set. There's a second 4×3 clear sentiment set “So and Too”, with mixed size fonts. It's so brilliant for 'title' stamping, it'd be great for scrapbooking as well as cardmaking. There's also a coordinating “Tabby Tigers” outline die set and I love the Special Edition “Tiger Stripes Stencil” in this set too, it's fabulous and I'll show you even more with that on my next Paper Door post. The kit is incredible value at only US$29.95, which is a great saving on last years kits. The kit includes 24 double-sided sheets of exclusive 6 × 6 Whimsy Stamps designer paper. This paper is heavy weight cardstock and lush! You get 12 sheets of 8.5 × 5.5 heavy weight card stock in black and white too. The white is perfect for using your alcohol markers on or can be used as a card base. You also get private access to pdf files with step-by-step instructions for at least 4 different projects too.

So come on over and step through the Paper Door, creativity awaits! I'll be back again very soon with more Paper Door inspiration, but in the meantime, do head over to the Whimsy Stamps Store and check out all this fabulous kit has to offer. The kits sold out in record time last month, so if you like it, don't wait to buy, there's limited stock and once they're gone, they're gone and I have it on good authority, we have only a handful of kits left now! Hugs and happy crafting xoxo
