Whimsy Stamps ~ Getting Ready For Christmas

Hey there crafty pals, I have been watching our lovely Sue from Whimsy Stamps sharing her gorgeous Christmas creations lately and have to confess I've been rather inspired by her to get on with some Christmas crafting myself!

 

I coloured up these cuties with my Copic Markers and had an idea of what I wanted to do with them using this fab 'triptych' slimline frame from Whimsy Stamps. I really love these retro window shapes. I think they're so fun, they rather remind me of the 50's era and for some reason the Jetsons! Go figure! I'm super pleased with how this turned out, giving each wee critter a frame to sit in, I think it looks super cute. I created a background swirl of colour behind each wee creature with shades of Copic Blues and then popped the critters up on foam to give a bit of dimension and interest.

I've used a sparkle pen to add details to each critter. The Squirrel, I made his hat tartan, with some deep red shades, because I LOVE dark tartans, deep rich reds, greens and blues. I went for deep mulberry reds for this to keep it simple and then added the tartan stripes in sparkle over the top. 

I think this little bunny is the cutest! I went for deep shades of red with simple sparkly dots on his hat and gloves. Such a wee cutie and so fun to colour.

This wee bunny, I added the scribbled heart with, popped up on foam, as he looks like he's gazing at something. I textured his fur by dotting the Copics markers, rather than smooth blending. I added some sparkle detail over his scarf too. Each critter has their own style and finish, but all equally cute I think.

I just LOVE the way the tartan frame ties this all together. I created it very simply, with some washi tape around the edge of the white slimline card base to bring the design together. The slimline diecut panel, I had already diecut in kraft cardstock a while back, when I was just playing with my new die and cut a bunch in different papers. This really appealed to me for a simple rustic finish and if you check out Sue's amazing creations, you'll see I was perhaps a little influenced by her! The sweet sentiment strip is also washi tape over white cardstock trimmed at the ends into fishtails. I chose the French and Swedish greetings as these are meaningful for my brother and his wife who have special connections to both countries. So this will be their Christmas card.
