Whimsy Stamps ~ You're Too Cute

Crafty friends, I'm back today with a wee make I coloured up a while back and never got made into a card. Until I inked up this background and had a wee 'aha' moment, that this could sit very nicely on this pretty inked back.

I diecut the background with a lovely rainbow texture die from a sweet Whimsy Stamps set. This also has the prettiest scalloped frame, but they can be cut separately, which I think is so clever. For this creation, I wanted just the rainbow textured bit of the die, so didn't use the pretty scalloped border.

I added the distress oxide ink in 3 shades. I love the look of a white edge on inked panels, it somehow adds to the 'handmade' feel for me. So I didn't cut this away, but rather used it to frame the design, trimming it to show just the tiniest smidge of white all around the diecut section. I used a stencil to create the splash background behind the whale, which was done with just a touch of white ink on top of the distress ink, creating a lovely tone on tone watersplash effect. I thought it still needed a little something else, so then also added some handcut splashes. I'm sure I have a droplet die somewhere, but couldn't lay my hands on it! I did them first in vellum, but they were too subtle too be effective, so I layered over the vellum with the white, which has a bit of shimmer on it.

I used an older die set from Whimsy to cut the lovely stitched frame. I thought it would be fun to layer up the inked edges, but I turned the base one around, so it added a bit of interest with the colour shift at each end. This image of Crissy Armstrong's sits on this background so well I think. I just love this sweet face and had to find a sentiment that was 'just right' for this make. So when I rummaged through my lovely sentiment collection from Whimsy Stamps, I discovered this one from an older stamp set. I think it's perfect for this sweet card and as the letters are open, I was able to use the same tones I did on the sweet whale to colour up the sentiment with an ombré effect, tying in the whale's colours better with the greens of the background.

totally adorable Wendy. What a great use of the background piece.
Stunning card Wends - love your colours and how you used them on the background, and flipped the larger layer to add interest. Gorgeous image and perfect sentiment
