Whimsy Stamps ~ July Digital Release

Hey there my lovely crafty friends. We are in July already can you believe it?! Which of course means we have a new Digital Release at Whimsy Stamps and we have some cuties this month. I played with a couple of images from the Meljen's Designs range to create this fun pop up box card. These are always such fun to create and my lovely crafty pal Janine Quinn has a great tutorial explaining how to put these together if you'd like to give it a go. I have used her tutorial a number of times and you can see a couple of my earlier box card creations here and here. For this particular box card, I used two slimline card blanks which I scored half an inch down two sides to create the flaps to adhere the card blanks together and turn them into a box card. I trimmed away the top half of the scored tabs and used the bottom halves to adhere together the box corners. Before adhering them together, I scored the three sides that would create the flaps at the front and sides of the design. You can do this at whatever height works for your design. The length of my slimline card blanks are just over 8 1/2 inches, so my score line for the flaps was done at 5 inches, to give a nice long tab at the front. This was to obscure my little hidden feature on this card. You could choose to make your flaps longer or shorter as suits your design.

I used some gorgeous slimline papers from Whimsy Stamps to create the nautical scene and then a plainer dark burgundy card on the base layers to anchor the design. There's a hidden element below the baby, so keep reading for the reveal.

I've coloured up two images for the main part of the card, the Beach Baby and Sandcastle from Whimsy's Meljen's Digital Collection. I thought they'd work really nicely together on the same creation. I would normally use two or three strips in the middle of a box card to add elements to, but wanted the sandcastle to be visible and not obscured, so chose to use only one strut across the middle for the design, featuring the sandcastle, but chose to add some birds on clear perspex strips for a bit of interest.

The lovely sunset scene on the background panel was perfect to add a couple of diecut elements to. So I cut both sailboats from the Build An Island Whimsy Stamps Die Set and added at the two different heights and in two different sizes for forced perspective. The smaller seagulls are also from this set. The larger seagull is from the Up In The Clouds die set from Whimsy.

I used a lovely sentiment from the Let's Be Mermaids Clear Stamp Set on one side flap of the box card. I rounded the edges of this flap and the paper before adding it. I white embossed the sentiment. I love the swirly font on this one, it's super pretty!

I used an equally gorgeous sentiment on the other side of the design from another lovely Whimsy Stamps mermaid clear stamp set aptly called Sweet & Salty. The beautiful paper is from a gorgeous slimline paper set called Glorious Sky. I used two designs that worked beautifully together to create this design.

Now as promised, here is the reveal of the little porthole window that is under the flap with the baby, when lifted this reveals a little window, through which you can see the Lots of Love Octopus also from the Meljen's Designs digital range at Whimsy. This is such a cute image and I think will bring a wee kiddie a big smile when they look under that flap! I added a punny sentiment to finish that off. 'Seas the Day'. This is from the sweet nautical animal set by Krista Heij-Barber called Baby Sea Creatures. I cut that little porthole window with one of the die shapes from the slimline set Slimline Card Builder. This is such a cool set as the elements can be used together or separately and are so versatile. If you're new to slimline dies, I'd recommend starting with this set.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this wee creation today. I sure had fun making it! I'll be back again very soon with a cute creation using an image from the Some Odd Girl collection at Whimsy, but in the meantime, I wish you a lovely day and happy weekend. Hugs xoxo
