Whimsy Stamps ~ Turner Syndrome Charity Auction

Crafty friends, I am supporting Turner Syndrome Awareness through the month of February by participating in a charity auction to raise funds for the Turner Syndrome Society. I've used beautiful Whimsy Stamps papers, background stamps, dies and stencils to create these cards. 

I used several gorgeous Whimsy Stamps elements to create these cards and went for a mixed media shabby chic sort of design. It's likely I'll have to post these overseas, so chose a lower profile design, as I'll be posting four together. I haven't used foam to add dimension to these as I ordinarily would for this sort of design. But I did add some beautiful lace to finish them and tie the theme together across all four cards in the set. 

I started the design by choosing two compatible pages from the utterly stunning slimline paper pad from Whimsy Stamps called Flower Puffs. This pad may just be my favourite ever released by Whimsy, which is saying something, because I love their papers, but this really is divine! You can see previous creations I've made with papers from this pad, here, here and here. I used a beautiful background script stamp to add random text on the papers, I've seen this done so often on shabby chic grunge designs and always loved it, but never been brave enough to try myself! So this was my first attempt at this style and I so love how it came out. 

I chose Distress Oxide Inks that toned well with the papers for the stamping and with those same inks added some butterflies through an older Whimsy Stamps stencil, they have an updated version of this stencil now, with some fabulous extra features, so I may have to update mine! The Dusty Concord was so perfect with the paper shown above and for the slightly more lilac toned paper, I used Wilted Violet, they just both worked so well with the tones in the paper, I was so pleased with how 'organic' it all looked. One of my kiddos friends said they thought the added elements were part of the original paper, as they'd not realised I'd added those features initially, so I took that as a successful first attempt!

I wanted to give these cards a more opulent rather than grungy feel, so rather than edge them with Distress Ink, I used an embossing dabber and then heat embossed rose gold and gold edges. I also heat embossed the lovely Whimsy sentiments to match. It was tricky to get the light to catch the embossing just right on the pic with all the cards together, they are all in reality, shiny and sparkly and lovely, which shows best in the third pic in this post.

I bordered each card with a trim of toning plain paper cut with a pretty scallop design using a Whimsy die and then added some pretty lace to finish. The tiny butterfly diecuts I added are from a Shaker Maker Die Set from Whimsy, it has several sizes perfect to cut as shaker elements, but also worked really well for this card design. I'm really pleased with how these cards came together and will be happy to post these to the auction winner (anywhere in the world).
